    Mentor Football 2024

It would be such a fun matchup for the community. Didn't come in here trying to antagonize anyone (though it appears I've struck a nerve with MentorGrad2002); I was just excited to share the news that a Mentor/LC game may be happening. Triv would have taken this game in a heartbeat. Come on...

    Mentor Football 2024

The ball is in Mentor’s court. If it doesn’t happen, it’s because Gray and/or Cassella don’t want it to happen.

    Mentor Football 2024

It would indeed be for Week 3. Lake’s schedule is not finalized yet. You must not be plugged in. Ask anyone inside Mentor football—Lake wants to play them.

    Mentor Football 2024

Hearing that Lake Catholic offered to play Mentor this year, but Mentor is being non-committal. Would be a fun matchup.

    Disappointed

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but from 2011–17 (pre-flood year and Christmas light parking debacle), I thought NTR was a fine venue for the state XC meet. I liked the flat course (always nice to PR at the end of the season) and found it to be really spectator-friendly despite being a...

    At-Large Qualifiers

Look at YJ's original post in this thread. He flat-out says that comparing times is a useless way to determine whether runners in one region would qualify in another. This is silly. The qualifying times out of Fitch were substantially faster than the qualifying times out of Piqua, so it was...

    At-Large Qualifiers

If you want to crown the Piqua boys distance qualifiers (4x800, 1600, 800, 3200) for not placing higher than fifth in anything, go ahead. My original point was about the necessity of at-large berths for the strongest possible state championship meet. The results of the state meet validated this...

    Good Luck at State

I mean, is it really different now just because the divisions are separated by venue? In the past, there was still a DI state meet, a DII state meet, and a DIII state meet — they were just all held at Jesse Owens Stadium. So I think "state" remains correct. In each division, there are multiple...

How are lane assignments determined for distance races at the state meet?

Thanks for the comment. I was pretty sure it was random, but I wasn't certain and figured someone would be able to confirm for me. I also wasn't sure if the addition of at-large qualifiers changed the previous process.

    At-Large Qualifiers

Well, I never said all high school distance runners "race full out for every meter of every race[.]" What I did say is that that most high school distance races are not tactical in the way that college or pro distance races are. As such, it is generally fair to judge the talent of a region based...

    At-Large Qualifiers

LOL, this isn't the Olympics or Diamond League. The vast majority of high school distance races aren't "tactical" — usually, everyone in the field is attempting to run as fast as they can. There are some exceptions, of course, but most high school races are veritable time trials. Are you really...

    At-Large Qualifiers

No, we absolutely need the at-large spots to get the best athletes competing at the state meet. Look at the D2 distance events at Fitch versus those at Piqua. Piqua winners would have a hard time making the regional podium at Fitch.

How are lane assignments determined for distance races at the state meet?

Just wondering if there is a system or if it is a random draw. Confused why qualifiers who placed lower than my athlete at regionals received a more preferable lane assignment.

    Regional updates

Pretty annoying that the OHSAA won't officially confirm at-large qualifiers from day one of regionals (Wednesday for DI/III, Thursday for DII) until regional finals are over.
