As Marty used to say, "swiiinggg and a miss".....
What you should get out of this is that our national leaders failed once again to recognize trends and changes in global commerce and technology. They thought that wages, taxes, and regulations could be increased at will because transportation costs of goods and services would keep America competitive in most industries. Offshoring, outsourcing, and automation took Democrats by surprise. They never anticipated the Chinese could flood the market with cheap steel. They never expected the Japanese to add quality to the low-cost vehicles they were importing. They never expected that the costs of transportation would drop to the point that it would be cheaper to manufacture entire goods overseas and import them here. They never expected India, Easter Europe, China, and other locations to educate and train people to replace American workers for 1/5th the money.
What resonated with people was that Trump understands business. He understands that to compete you need to unshackle American business from uncompetitive regulations and the heaviest tax burden in the world. It's tough to compete with low-wage, low-cost nations when American companies are saddled with costly regulations and excessive tax rates in addition to higher energy, labor, and benefit costs. There's no doubt why offshoring, outsourcing, and automation occur.
