Three weights I'm interested in...and 70kg. Don't see a whole lot of interesting NCAA guys there, PJ Duke is a fun match-up problems for a lot of guys though.

I'll add to this- 2021 was a full (10 weights) world championships as well as the Olympics, but we didn't have Worlds in 2020. 2021 worlds was more of a makeup for that one. This is just extra, like 2016

Got it. So do they add these matches to the points in the Olympics to come up with World Champions for 2024? I guess I should go look at prior years like 2016 and prior to see if they show a World Championship team total. An entire World Championship was wrestled in 2021 a couple months after the unattended Olympics. That was held in Norway.

Only 8 weights wrestled for World Championships from 2014-2017, so for 2016 World Championships, Logan Stieber (and Magomed) won the "extra matches" to determine the world champions with the Olympic champions making up the rest. No official team champion shown. Says also that the Olympic years are considered "unofficial team champions", but don't see team champions listed for Olympic years (excluding 2021 when it was wrestled separately from the Olympics (which would have been for 2020). No team championships shown for 2016, 2012, 2008, etc. in MFS or GR.

Bryce Andonian R1 went about as expected for a Bryce Andonian match. 61kg quarters look insane, Marcus Blaze v Seth Gross a highlight there

Taylor looking all of the additional 45 pounds since his freshman year at PSU. Wins 1st match easily 10-0 in early 1st period.

Quarters:

61kg:
- Nahshon Garrett v Liam Cronin
- Marcus Blaze v Seth Gross
- Austin DeSanto v Jax Forrest
- Nas Bailey v Daton Fix

70kg:
- Alec Pantaleo v Yahya Thomas
- Jarrett Jacques v PJ Duke
- Jordan Oliver v Bryce Andonian
- Paniro Johnson v James Green

79kg:
- Chance Marsteller v Hunter Garvin
- Keegan O'Toole v David Carr
- Alex Dieringer v Evan Wick
- Levi Haines v Jordan Burroughs

92kg:
- David Taylor v Marcus Coleman
- Mike Macchiavello v Eric Schultz
- Jay Aiello v Aeoden Sinclair
- Max Hale v Trent Hidlay

Max Hale over Pat Downey in R16 was the only time a top 8 ranked wrestler lost before the quarters in men's freestyle. Aeoden Sinclair 11-0 over Connor Mirasola was a surprise to me, as was Alec Pantaleo only winning 3-3 over Dayne Morton (who wrestled at Cal Baptist last year, apparently).

Semis, MFS:

61kg:
Nahshon Garrett v Marcus Blaze
Austin DeSanto v Daton Fix

70kg:
Alec Pantaleo v PJ Duke
Jordan Oliver v James Green

79kg:
Chance Marsteller v Keegan O'Toole
Alex Dieringer v Jordan Burroughs

92kg:
David Taylor v Mike Macchiavello
Jay Aiello v Trent Hidlay

Semis at 6pm. Guessing challenge finals at 61kg and 92kg after that? Real finals tomorrow

Blaze vs. Fix in the finals for the right to wrestle 2 out of 3 with Arujau.

I'm also going to say I don't understand how Garrett was put on the clock vs. Blaze, and Blaze was never put on the clock. Blaze still likely wins 4-1 if he goes on the clock first and Garrett does not. Wins on solid TD off Garrett shot attempt, 2 push outs, and the passivity clock.

Taylor with a pin in 2:09 with a 6-0 lead at the time over Macchiavello. Taylor looks unbeatable at this higher weight. Gets Hidlay or Aiello and that winner gets 2 of 3 vs. Valencia.

And it will be Hidlay with a 12-1 win over Aiello at 5:55 tech fall

Burroughs over Dieringer 7-4. Dieringer with a late, late TD and had a lace in but could not turn it for points before time runs out. Was down 7-2 at the time.

Afterward, Dieringer takes off the shoes places them in the center of the mat and retires. Burroughs walks over and gives him a kiss on the top of his head. Emotional moment for Dieringer - and I think was a surprise to many.

Burroughs vs. Marstellar in the 2 of 3 finals on Sunday.

Ringer was an incredible wrestler, and honestly is a guy who I'm afraid will be forgotten in time. Amazing in high school, 3x NCAA champ (a 3-2 OT loss to Derek St. John away from maybe being a 4xer), and a bunch of good freestyle wins, including defeating two Olympic medalists and several other world medalists. His only crime was competing during the era of Burroughs, Dake and Taylor, three of the best US wrestlers ever. Hope he is successful in whatever he chooses to do after competing.

I think Blaze looked great in 2-1 loss. Vito looked like he may have tweeked something at the end. Blaze looked confident leaving the mat. C'mon round 2

Burroughs takes match 1 3-0. Pretty obvious he and Chance won't be going out for beers together when it's over.
