Bristol did not want to play there. East Palestine refused to move the game. OHSAA said they didn’t have the authority to move the game because local, state, and federal officials said it was safe. As a result, Bristol chose to forfeit.Bristol didn't want to play there? Or was it another issue?
I’m a tad surprised Roselea Place was involved, and that it wasn’t a move made entirely at the discretion of the District Athletic Board.Bristol did not want to play there. While the sectional and district rounds are run by the District Boards, who knows how high up the food chain the situation went?I’m a tad surprised Roselea Place was involved, and that it wasn’t a move made entirely at the discretion of the District Athletic Board.
That is incorrect. EP perhaps threatened a lawsuit, but it never went to court. OHSAA never made a decision to move the game, though conversations were held with EP asking them if they would voluntarily move it.Ohsaa originally moved it and EP took it to court and win so ohsaa was overruled
That's not how it was told to me by our assistant AD who has some knowledge on the subject but I'll take your word on it. I think it should have been movedThat is incorrect. If there was a lawsuit, it’d be public record. You’d be able to look it up online, see the judge, etc. media would’ve covered such a thing, a judge saying the school must play. That's not how it was told to me by our assistant AD who has some knowledge on the subject but I'll take your word on it. I thought the same thing. It still should have been moved in my opinionIf there was a lawsuit, it’d be public record. You’d be able to look it up online, see the judge, etc. media would’ve covered such a thing, a judge saying the school must play.
I agree. If a school wasn’t comfortable, EP should’ve respected that. The fact that the school wouldn’t is the factor to me.I thought the same thing. It still should have been moved in my opinion
So if the two schools agreed to play it at Bristol site, how could the OHSAA stop them?East Palastine Girls Basketball Tournament Game Impacted By Train Derailment, OHSAA Says 'No' To Site Change

So the air inside all the buildings in EP is fine? The bad air just stays outside? It seems like both sides are at fault here... It appears that it would be pretty easy to move the game to a neutral site. On the other side (I am not an environment scientist) It seems like a slight overreaction by Bristol to not play the game. Were they concerned about air quality or water? It would be very easy to just bring your own case of bottled water for your team... again I am not an air quality specialist, but is the time walking from the bus to the gym and back to the bus after the game that significant of a danger?
Bottom line, adults once again taking opportunities away from kids in what appears to potentially have been a close game with how they were seeded.. I feel bad for the players on both teams and especially Bristol as they did not even get an opportunity...

what's a "district athletic board"?I’m a tad surprised Roselea Place was involved, and that it wasn’t a move made entirely at the discretion of the District Athletic Board.
they got bounced in the game they had to play next.I think the whole situation stinks. I totally understand why Bristol would ask for the neutral site - I feel the same way. I also understand that EP is back to school, and if their students have to be there every day like normal, then why shouldn't they be able to play games/sports at their school if they're entitled to it!
Bristol lost nothing because there was never anything to win or to lose except a meaningless kids gameIt seems like both sides are at fault here...
