Not sure what you mean? Here's what we know about the WNBA. They are in lock step with ESPN/ ABC, this is the only network that shows their games and promotes the league. OF COURSE they are going to push the league. Now I think they were very cautious on pushing Clark fully because you had a league full of players who've played in this league for YEARS with little acknowledgement. Believe me, there were major discussions on her being included on the Olympic team and players from that team said they didn't want her on there, wouldn't be surprised if Diana Taurasi was at the lead of that. Taurasi is probably as popular of a player in that league before Clark. This is a pretty good video on how the WNBA botched the addition of Caitlin Clark
I think overall the WNBA has done a poor job of marketing itself and this past year was a perfect example. Of course it's not about just one player but when has just one player made such an impact on any league. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson together saved the NBA and the league was not shy about grabbing onto those coat tails. I think the other women in the WNBA should be pissed at the commissioner and how poorly the WNBA has been marketed even when it has someone like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese to promote it. Sure Caitlin has to hit the weight room and get stronger and improve her game but from what I saw not all those turnovers were her fault. Her teammates early on didn't know how to play with someone like her whose court vision is way ahead a lot of the other WNBA players. If the WNBA wants to really improve these whiny bitches need to jump on board the train Caitlin has ridden into to town on instead of trying to derail it. In the end if Caitlin keeps getting better the more people will want to see and the more it will raise the level of play in the other women as well meaning more money for all.Not sure what you mean? The WNBA has to advocate for all players no just one. And although Clark had a pretty good rookie year, there's still alot of work to do. She shot only 34.5% from 3 point land, and led the league in turnovers by a mile. Yes, she's going to put numbers because she has the ball in her hands all the time.
All I'll say is just let this play out. Clark is a very, very good player, but she struggles to create her own shot. Indy did a great job turning her into a facilitator rather than a scorer. It amuses me when people point to her passes being "too good" and yet she led the league in assists? Gotta be one way or the other. Also think the Indy coach did a nice job putting Kelsey Mitchell in the 2 guard spot as she can create and score and finised alot of Clark's assists.I think overall the WNBA has done a poor job of marketing itself and this past year was a perfect example. Early on in the season I remember seeing her passes being too hot to handle or the other players weren't even looking for them so I respectfully disagree that it is an either or situation. As the season developed her teammates knew to be ready whenever she had the ball. All I'll say is just let this play out. Clark is a very, very good player, but she struggles to create her own shot. I was around back then too and the transition from college to NBA was all about Magic and Larry. The NBA most certainly did take advantage of that rivalry,You have to remember the WNBA is a women's basketball league and no matter how great you make it, there will be LOTS of people who'll never follow it. Looking back now, it's easy to say Bird and Magic was marketed, but I was around back then and there were ALOT of other stars in the league and it took a few years for Johnson and Bird to fully catch on with marketers.
Caitlin helped make the Fever a winner in the first year. The playoffs were a disappointment but she helped turn that team around in the regular season results. Time will tell but she needs to get to work. I think she needed a break after playing a full college schedule and jumping right into the WNBA. But it will be interesting to see how she does in her second year. Also, both Bird and Magic won immediately. Magic won a championship in year one and Bird took the Celtics from bad to good overnight.
Alot of people have already written checks for her, hopefully she'll become as good as people are think she be. One of my biggest words in sports is "expectations". So many times, an athlete's perception is ruined by expectations of fans and others. A couple of the few athletes in my lifetime that's met or exceeded expectations is LeBron and Tiger. Look at a couple of our most popular athletes today. Patrick Mahomes, Texas Tech, not even drafted in the top 10. Maybe a projected future franchise QB. Steph Curry, played at Davidson. Great college career but no one expected this from him. Meanwhile, we can lists of first round busts in every sport.Caitlin helped make the Fever a winner in the first year. You guys hate women so much it disgusting. The WNBA is going to lose $40 million this year and the players union is going on strike for more money Seriously?!?!? The WNBA has been bleeding for years losing tens of millions of dollars each year. If the NBA had not been subsidizing the league it would have folded many years ago. These women live in their own dream world to think they deserve the same kind of pay as the NBA players.
