WK 11 Licking Heights (4-6) vs Massillon (8-2)

If you read what I posted earlier I said teams that are 1-9,2-8 absolutely do not deserve to be in the playoffs but I'm not going to lie though LH is 4-6 and they lost to some great teams
I understand that, but you can't really have it both ways, either we go back to 8 teams per region (which you don't seem to want), or we have to be happy and accept a bunch of 1-9 / 2-8 and 3-6 teams (which you admit don't belong)

That's why I said 12 teams because it makes it some what better we won't 1 win teams in the playoffs

To each their own, some like having more football and games to go to, some don't need it. You're viewing this mostly from a R7 perspective, but in general I think 4 vs 5 or 3 vs 6 in round one, for example, is much better than 4 vs 13 and 3 vs 14. It's also an extra week of snaps in mostly meaningless games where you can get key players hurt that might derail a team's chances to make a run. I also have a hard time believing that most of the kids on these 1-9 or 2-8 teams have any interest in playing one more week just to get their head kicked in one more time.
I agree. 4 weeks of playoffs, top 6 or 8. Will you have blowouts. Yes, but not as many and teams will have earned their way in and every game counts. A few years ago Stow was 1 and 9 and made the playoffs. Their first game was against the 12th ranked team in the nation Lakewood St Eds. The score was 49 to 0 in the second quarter. St Eds jv team would have killed them. I can't imagine that was any fun for Stow players, coaches or fans.

Either way let's face it being in a weak region we have 4 weeks of playing bad teams and looking like a world beater then reality sets in

In my opinion, no 12 teams. We don't need byes for high school playoffs. 8 is the sweet spot, in my opinion. If you can't make the top 8 in your region, too bad.
I tell you what with only 8 Massillon won't be loading the schedule with National competition and adding Glenville. 6-4 you most likely are staying home if you didn't beat some really good teams. Might not be top 8 in region because those other teams are playing 8-10 puffs and going undefeated or with 1or two losses

12 was the sweet spot for playoff expansion. 16 is overkill, especially in D1 where there is only 18 in a region
Now that I agree D1 especially region 1 is overkill but even in D1R1 even if you let eight teams in I'm pretty sure the 8th seed has a losing record that region is god awful

This might sound stupid but it's just a idea... What if the Ohsaa allowed the top 16 teams from each division in the playoffs? They could somehow incorporate a strength schedule Factor that will determine the top 16 teams in the state in each respective division you could do it by a grading scale 1 being the weakest 20 being the strongest that's how you will determine the top 16 teams in each division and you could still keep the same playoff format meaning 1 v 16 2 v 15 etc. that's the only way I feel like you would stop blowouts in the playoffs and it would also make the regular season exciting because teams will be beating down the door to have a top schedule. Your record would determine your seeding and your SOS will be determined your rank.

Last year in D2 in the first round there were 9 “upsets” with 3 of those being 9 over an 8.
None of those 9 teams won a 2nd game.

What most ohio and Massillon fans dont know before Lex Wesner basically made the east side of Columbus his playground with all his funding and projects. Before all the mass suburban development on that side it was known as an enclave called Summit Station situated at Route 16 and Mink Road. The Licking Heights Local School District like New Albany-Plain Local spent years toiled in obscurity and at that time drew students from Lima and Jersey Township on the Licking side and some students from Jefferson Twp on the Franklin County side. In 1994 Lima Township merged with Pataskala because township leaders couldnt do their math and check growth from encroaching cols metro. the then tiny licking heights only drew like 400-500 students in k12 and it was primarly rural with rednecks and farmers living there. By the early to mid 2000s is when enrollment finally blew up at LHLD and not one but two highs have to be built to handle all the growth at mink and morse road. Before this the hornets have reached the playoffs a time or too but were most likely knocked out of the playoffs. The school has been seeing an increase in Somali and south asian students, not sure if they football or not
The school built their first new high school in 2003. They grew out of that school they had to buy 6 modulars. They finally opened the new HS about 4 years ago next to what became the MS. In the last 15ish years they have built 2 additional elementaries and are currently in the process of building a new, even bigger elementary. Not only that, but they just completed an addition onto the brand new HS. The growth has happened so quick that the HS didn't even have its own athletic complex until this year, finally completing a brand new stadium. Prior to that players had to walk or drive on an access road that connected the HS & MS to get to their locker room. I've always referred to them as a D3 or large D4 school in D2 clothes. There was a large influx of Somalians in the early to mid 2000s. Now there is exponential growth of students from Nepal. For the most part, these students don't make a dent into the school's athletic population. There are over 50 languages spoken at the school, so it really doesn't have the identity it did when it was a D4-D3 school.

As far as playoffs are concerned, your'e right, a 4-6 team doesn't belong in the playoffs. I grew up with 8 team playoff format, and I thought that was the best. Sure, they've lost to some good schools, but I'm a believer that to be the best you must beaslt some of the best. I've heard there have been lower seed teams upset higher ones, but I'm not aware of any at the D1-2 level. The Hornet teams between 2007-2016 were really competetive, good football teams, but the program isn't near that level now. Since 2019 they've been through 2 coaches, both of which were first timers, so its definitely been a struggling program.

Darn it, sucks perry is on the other half of the bracket. Hate that they moved Hoover , Green ,and Lake to Hobans region. Much rather beat up on fed teams instead of playing nothing but Columbus area school's

Right I don't mind playing at Mansfield but I feel like we're going to be playing there a lot more because we benefited by having Lake ,Green ,Hoover in R7 because we could play at a neutral site in Stark county but now it's mainly going to be Mansfield being the Midway point

Oh it wasn't the travel that bothers me, I just like to take it to federal league trash. You make a good point with the travel though

whats funny to me is all the 1-9 teams are going to post banners that said we made the playoffs. Massillon is going to crush this team that doesn't really exits. Your tough. Maybe Walsh or Hoban or Avon or a Cinncey team will play with you

You sound really stupid or mentally challenged 😂 They don't exist???? Why because they have a bad record? It's Massillon fault who they play now??? So they are "tough"

You obviously are a Massillon guy, or girl. I'm giving props to your Tigers. Your The aHOLE that makes Massillon could bad. Just be cool. duech bag.
