Why the NFL is king....

Ever wonder why the networks pay all that money for sports, particularly the NFL? Well here you go. The top prime time shows of 2023. 28 of the top 30 were NFL games. 45 of the top 100 were NFL games. Anyone thinking the NFL is coming off of Thursday, Sunday, Monday nights. Heck if the union agreed, they'd have an NFL game 7 nights a week.

The NCAA football numbers are missing, the title game LY pulled in just over 17 million viewers in prime time. Still doesn't make the top 20.

Interesting...

Because the average doo fuss NFL fan, LUUUUUVS a LOTTA SCORING! Do you ever wonder why great players in college, many times stink in the NFL, and vice versa?

WHO had ever heard of Tom Brady when he was at MEEEchigan? And one of the greatest WR to ever play the game, Tyreek Hill, couldn't make the roster of the BEST TEN teams in the Power Five.

Three reasons....
1. Football fits into "most" peoples lives. It's weekly, it's made for TV. It's 17 games now, most NFL fans are also college football fans so most can make it work. Baseball is everyday, 162 games and for many people, they can't follow that close.
2. Fantasy football- probably the biggest boon to NFL football other than television. Fantasy football pulls millions into a game that many never played and some don't even understand. Again, it's weekly, anyone can play and win at fantasy football.
3. Gambling. Gambling and sports has always been a thing, but now that it's legal most places, and with the ease of apps, it just makes another reason to watch games.

Looks like someone's train of thought got derailed. There is zero logic in this pile of words and non-words.

Glad you found your legal weed dispensary, but might want to lower the daily dosage. Your brain isn't working.

SADLY, I am merely a victim of rudimentary Sothen edumacation, unlike that PRIMO larnin from your IVORY LEAGUE!😆😆😆😆 I have few outlets to expound upon my rather Spartan larnin from a small college and university in Milledgeville, Jawja. That is merely famous for being one of the top ten small colleges and universities in the Southeast. And a past underage puntang waterin hole for Gentle Ben, of the Pittsburgh Steelers. But I'll certainly strive to pick up my game a tad, when them Kirby Dawgs come a callin on THE Ohio State Buckaroos. ;)

Thread summary:

Topic: Why is the NFL the biggest ratings on TV?

Discussion: A few reasons why the ratings are good: football is popular, NFL is packaged for TV, Fantasy football and gambling have increased interest. All valid points.

SWGA: Tom Brady and Tyreke Hill were not great players when they were in college.

What???? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
What logic...

So the thread is named why the NFL is king. Well here's a couple more reasons. One and maybe most importantly is marketing. The NFL is a year around league and it's not by accident. Now I'm and old man and I recall the days when 14 games were played in the regular season, the defensive lineman and linebackers were slow, lumbering guys and most teams ran the ball 75% of the time. No one even cared about football until September and after the super bowl, no one cared about football again until the draft. Today, there is a significant even that occurs monthly in the NFL. If it's not games between September and February, it's a free agent signing period, franchising tagging players, mini camps, OTA's, draft combine etc. It is a never ending push. Why? What's the one thing you need to have to keep fans interested? Hope. Once the season starts and the teams get 2-3 games under their belts, you'll lose 20% of the fan bases as they'll quicky find out their team isn't contending again this season. Heck, half the fan bases got crushed yesterday with a week 1 loss, meaning the week 2 game is "must win".

The NFL is king because at least 12 of the scheduled 16 games will come down to another team winning after the Two Minute Warning.

The NFL is king because of familiarity, parity and a salary cap, which our Saturdays currently do not have anymore. I'm sorry, but Browns vs. Raiders or Bengals vs. Panthers moves the needle more than Alabama v. Georgia for too many purposes.

The NFL is king due to the competitive parity, and having a high percentage of games that come down to the late moments of the game further amplifies viewership due to the fantasy football angle, and moreso now, legalized gambling and in-game betting.

Really watch this last Sat. NFL has always been more popular than college football. 50 years ago, 40 years, ago 30. ago, and today.

I will listen to baseball while I work in my shop, but I never watch it. Football, I prefer to watch it, but will listen to it if I really want to follow a game.
Baseball on the radio is great! Sure I prefer to watch, but it's hard to invest 2-3 hours for a full game, so radio is good too for either one!
