I wouldn't say split. The normal starter only played 3 series.wasn’t there, but people I talked to said he split time for the JV game, that is absolutely crazy. I’m sure he practices with varsity, to try and play QB without practicing with the team to be able to have any kind of timing with receivers or just as important the center.
speaking from experience with both of my sons who were on Varsity and played some JV games as well the same week. You would think the playbook is the same for all, but it is not. JV runs the same concepts but the plays are numbered/labeled differently and as a QB I could see how this could be even more confusing.Vollmer played the entire JV game Saturday morning vs Moeller and did not look good at all. It may have been the fact he was trying to do to much but after watching that game I now know why he is not playing more varsity. Moeller won the JV game and neither team was that impressive.
agree with this 100 percent. not taking anything away from QB1 but if you look back at Mccaughey his junior season the kid was absolutely lights out. he also had one of the best OLs we have seen in StX for quite some time, but then again there is a reason they won the State that season. they had elite athletes, high level QB, and an OL that could do just about anythingAfter seeing the team this year I think they need to simplify the offense and get back to the basics. The system worked great with talented throwers and great athletes (Rueve, Clifford, Lang, Klare, Patterson, McCaughey) but this team doesn't seem to be the same as years past. Should be a good challenge this week back at home to try and get back on track. Lets GO X!
My thoughts exactly. The act is getting pretty old, and I'm sure Specht is not happy with the lack of ball control. The OC has zero ability to adapt to the type of talent he has or what the defense is doing. It's been a very frustrating two seasons and even back to the end of the '21 season. Will X try to establish a Running Game? Anyone else think the X OC basically out smarts himself?
You could have stuck Herbstreit on job and it would be the same result. I think JV should have rolled with the team that had been winning up to that point instead of sprinkling in different guys.Vollmer played the entire JV game Saturday morning vs Moeller and did not look good at all. It may have been the fact he was trying to do to much but after watching that game I now know why he is not playing more varsity. Moeller won the JV game and neither team was that impressive.
X doesn’t have a QB problem, the Evil Empire doesThey need a qb, herbstreit isn't it.
They threw the ball 2 of every 3 plays which is entirely too much but that's what happens when you get behindSpecht is not happy with the lack of ball control
X has a turnover problem and a run game issue. That was a self-inflicted loss by St X. Defense continues to look solid. They held Moe to 13 points. The turnovers were killer to an already struggling offense.
Oline play hasn't been great but the main run game issue is due to defenses not respecting the QB's arm/ ability to beat them with pass. Trying to run against a stack box is difficult for any HS offense.X has a turnover problem and a run game issue.
5 turnovers....all figured in their 2 TDs and 2 FGs
So what’s wrong with the run game?
OLine no push? Missing blocks? Not clicking as a unit?
The 2 sacks, 7 tackles for loss and Herbie's line of 5 carries for -12 yards says a lot
Running backs not healthy?
Patrick’s been out all year, Britt just came back after missing Withrow and Napier may not have it all together.
Britt and Napier combined for 18 carries for 58 yards, a 3.2 ypc which needs to be up around 4.5 so X isn’t looking at so many passing situations
The head scratcher is Vollmer.....he's 1 of X's most dangerous ball carriers (needs 10 touches per game)
He only got the 1 chance and then played most of the JV game the next day

Can't figure that out either. The kid is a freak of an athlete so find a way to use him. Makes you wonderThe fact that Vollmer is playing JV is such a joke. He is the best athlete on the field, legit D1 prospect and he's playing JV. He'd start at quarterback for nearly every team in Ohio. JV!!!!
No idea what the OC is doing. People say the "playbook is complex", who cares about complexity, get your best athletes the ball in space and let them make plays.
At what point does "winning" become the priority?
He does, but he’s a team guy and will do what he’s askedIs there any thought the kid wants to play QB and doesn’t want to play another position.
He's not ready to be varsity QB.Is there any thought the kid wants to play QB and doesn’t want to play another position.
Watching the replay of the game on ESPX. Is it possible to have more offensive penalties, false starts, illegal formation and holdings? - X own announcers were even frustrated. The X players look confused all the time, they even said "We were still not getting lined up correctly last year up to week 10." How hard is it? Is it a lack of preparation or coaching or maybe X kids aren't as smart as we have been told. After seeing the team this year I think they need to simplify the offense and get back to the basics. Vollmer does look like a crazy good athlete, but I believe he touched it one time Friday and fumbled and gave up a defensive TD. Also, he fumbled twice in JV and threw an interception. Doesn't sound like the kid is ready to go. However, I heard is really talented. The fact that Vollmer is playing JV is such a joke. This is coming straight from the West Side, the best two quarterbacks in the program are playing safties on Defense.X has a turnover problem and a run game issue.

Eh, O'Malley didn't look like a QB back there last year, at least not for this offense. X's OC has a bad habit of trying to be too cute, and has pet plays that he insists on running continuously even though they're getting read and blown up. People in motion every damn play, usually for no purpose because the defense isn't moving with them. The talent is there, but there is zero flow and confidence right now. This is coming straight from the West Side, the best two quarterbacks in the program are playing safties on Defense.
