This is no surprise. Waterford beat a better Hiland team last year and Waterford had everyone back.
Hiland is small on the perimeter. They have trouble scoring inside and a team with better size can prevent them from getting off 3s.
Coach Brechtl took advantage time and time again on the Waterford offensive end. She got bigger players isolated on Hiland's smalls at the low block and they scored on 2 footers. Over and over - and Hiland had no answer.
Often a team in Hilands disadvantaged situation will play a zone to try to make a team like Waterford shoot 10 footers instead of 2 footers. But Hiland, as a philosophical matter, will only play man to man.
As long as Waterford took the easy money, they were going to win this game handily. And, of course, their team defense is excellent.
