For six weeks, Nordonia found a way to win.
Last night there was no margin for error.
Wadsworth scored early and often in a 55-14 victory over the Knights, solidifying first place in the Suburban League.
The Grizzlies forced Nordonia to punt on a three and out, then took advantage of a short field. Less than three minutes in, they scored on a 24-yard run by Kyle Figury.
They needed only 46 seconds to score again after Nordonia turned the ball over on fourth down. Will Stack completed a 24-yard pass to Figury.
Possession #3 ended in a blocked punt. Wadsworth recovered at the Nordonia 15 and scored again just 46 seconds into the second quarter on a 14-yard pass from Stack to Drew Jones.
Ben Chesser (13-25 for 197 yards) threw a pair of TD passes to Israel Petite in the second quarter for the Knights.
Nordonia held Wadsworth to begin the second half and took four minutes off the clock, only for Connell Rafferty to miss a field goal attempt wide right.
Wadsworth went 80 yards and scored with 34 seconds left in the third on a two-yard run by Stack.
Chesser was a pick-six victim as the quarter ended.
Brenden Hermensky, the defensive captain for Nordonia, had a few successful fourth-down conversions, but a pass attempt with eight minutes to play was overthrown.
Not even a holding penalty-the only foul marked off against Wadsworth-could keep the Grizzlies from scoring again. Stack had a 20-yard run. He finished with 125 of the team's 266 yards and was 12 of 16 passing for 161 yards.
Even a backup got into the act when Cooper Gray scored on a 44-yard run.
Rocco DeLorenzo barely reached 100 yards for the Knights. They had only 132 rushing yards total.
