North Carolina-bound WR Todd Harrelson had a huge day, but Oscar Smith fell 24-21 to Westfield in a matchup of probably the two best teams in the state. Here's a little rundown of the state final matchups:

D6: Westfield (14-0) vs. Woodbridge (9-4)--Woodbridge's record is a little deceiving, as they had a ton of injuries early and lost some games they should have won. Junior RB DeAntwan "Rocket" Williams ran for 247 yards and 5 TDs in their semifinal win over Hermitage. Westfield's one weakness seems to be their secondary, so Woodbridge will have to pass as well as throw to win this one.

D5: Stone Bridge (14-0) vs. Potomac (13-0)--Some NFL connections here as Stone Bridge is led by Virginia Tech-bound RB Jeron Gouveia, son of former Redskin Kurt Gouveia, while Potomac is coached by former Bronco Tony Lilly. Stone Bridge rallied to beat defending state champs Phoebus in the semifinal, and their single wing gives opponents trouble. Potomac has a ton of speed and has rolled through the playoffs so far.

D4: Amherst (13-0) vs. Sherando (13-0)--Amherst is the defending state champs, and with 25 straight wins is a big favorite here. They are led by two Virginia Tech commits, Peter Rose (262 yards rushing and 5 TDs in a semifinal win over Salem) and Derrick McCoy, and have scored at least 35 points in every game this season. Sherando has a powerful offense of their own, led by junior QB Ross Metheny (being recruited by several ACC schools) and senior RB Markeith Brisco (551 yards in three playoff games).

D3: Monticello (12-1) vs. Richlands (11-2)--Monticello RB Takeem Hedgeman is apparently considered too small for major colleges, but his 2,734 yards and 47 (yes, forty-seven) touchdowns have been huge this season. They take on the defending state champions in Richlands, who had a long regular-season winning streak snapped this year but have rallied in the playoffs behind Virginia Tech-bound RB Austin Fuller.

I don't know much about the D2 and D1 teams, but here are the matchups:

D2: Gretna (13-0) vs. Gate City (10-3)--Gretna has only had one game decided by less than 25 points, against a much larger school from North Carolina. Gate City avenged two of their regular-season losses in the playoffs, and the third the season-opener against D3 finalist Richlands.

D1: Buffalo Gap (13-0) vs. Clintwood (9-4)--Buffalo Gap's star player is named Pickle Nuckols.

I'd say Westfield has to be a big favorite in the D6 state final. I've seen them twice, and they are awesome. Oscar Smith must have one heck of a team to hang with the Bulldogs.

This will probably be the best game of the day.

Not too many close games:

D6: Westfield 42 Woodbridge 14
D5: Stone Bridge 38 Potomac 0
D4: Amherst 56 Sherando 10 (Sherando's QB broke his ankle in the second qtr with Sherando up 10-7)
D3: Monticello 36 Richlands 22 (36-6 after three qtrs)
D2: Gretna 52 Gate City 0
D1: Buffalo Gap 28 Clintwood 19
