It appears the last time they gave up 35 was in 2012 week 2 against West Jefferson. They gave up 37. Also gave up 34 to minster that year. But this is from Max Preps so I'm not sure how accurate it is because it also says Marion lost to Beallsville in 2015 and they definitely didn't lose and also didn't shut Beallsville out.

Yeah it doesn’t seem possible. I’ve watched ML this year and there are some vulnerabilities that Versailles will reveal.
btw, New Bremen put up 33 in 2021 probably seemed unimaginable then too.
Again this will be an insanely intense historical battle.

Marion Local played that game without Drew Seitz and Robbie Buschur both were 1st team All MAC players from the year before. I would be very surprised if either team scored 30 plus pts. this Friday, actually even though I am picking V, I believe a high scoring game favors the Flyers. Versailles wants to play tigerball in other words ball control.

Sometimes these games have a way of not living up to the hype. Hopefully, that isn't the case this year. Just hope for a healthy game for both in their postseason quests. Also, please let me win the 50/50.

Flyers still won the game. It's always next man up. Can't remember if Tate Hess had returned for that New Bremen game or not. I remember them being pretty banged up and finally got somewhat healthy for the playoffs. As for this week, I usually say first team to 20 wins when the Flyers are in this type of game. I'm raising it to 28 here.

not sure anyone can score 28 points on each others defense... unless the O turns the ball over for a few TD's... ( like the brownies did last night:( )

The 2021 Marion Local team was a team that was probably the most injured team Coach Goodwin has ever had. There were a lot of fairly serious injuries. If it weren't for their unusually large roster of depth for a D7 team and huge efforts by many upperclassmen like Peyton Otte and Darren Meier that year, could have been a very different story for that team.

For the game in 2021 against Versailles, in addition to Robbie Buschur and Drew Seitz being out that game, Brady Ronnebaum, Kyle Otte, Conner Bruns and Tate Hess were out. That was 6 starters and many were 2 way players.

Kyle Otte was out for the season after the DSJ game, Brady Ronnebaum missed over half the regular season, Drew Seitz missed most of the season and made it back mid playoffs from 2 separate injuries, Robbie Buschur was actually injured the 1st half against Versailles and didn't make it back until mid playoffs and Tate Hess missed entire regular season in 2021. That was 3 players who were All Ohio at some point and Otte would have been had he stayed healthy.

By round 2 of the playoffs, the 2021 team was probably at their healthiest which is why the scores started getting lopsided. In the playoffs that year, they were still missing Kyle Otte and Owen Rindler; but were finally mostly healthy.

Besides showing their toughness and grittiness that year, the amount of injuries did provide a chance for a lot of under classmen to get a lot of Varsity experience which has carried over into this year's team.

Good memory! That team wasn't taking no for an answer that year. The loss to New Bremen the prior year didn't set well with them.

I thought the Tigers were a better team that year, but Goodwin game planned so well to stop the Tigers offense. I fear the same could happen this year.

They gave up a bunch of points that year, but seemed to score just enough to win. In 12 of their 15 games that year they gave up 20 or more points.

Not sure what year the running clock came in, but that has greatly reduced late game scoring by the losing team in a JV vs varsity scenerio. IMO the running clock has aided defenses in setting season low points allowed.

In looking up some stats, I happened across a game on 10/31/2014. Does anyone else remember how cold it was that night in southwest Ohio?

That was by far the worst weather I have ever set in to watch a game. We were near the continental divide that night.

Coincidentally the last time Versailles beat Marion Local was 2012. I believe that was the year (maybe it was 2013) the Flyers had only 6 or 7 srs. on the team but the Flyers had a very good QB in Bertke and soph. rb in Goettemoeller. I agree the running clock helps defenses preserve shutouts.

Yes. Versailles played at Fort Recovery. First half sleeted the whole time. Second half snowed heavy the whole time. Tigers won 20-0 over a good Ft Recovery team. Believe it was their first playoff team. Then they won state the next year.

That season Marion had only 6 seniors and their defense was made up of almost entirely sophomores. Also had the smallest roster in recent memory, something like 44 kids that year. Lots of back and forth games for ML that year.

In terms of offensive skill, Jordan Rethman was the top senior for the Flyers in 2012. Unfortunately, he broke his collar bone in week 2 and did not return until the first playoff game, where he rebroke it in the first quarter when he was tackled hard while returning an interception. His season was then over.

So ML played nearly the entire season with only 5 seniors.
