URSULINE & MOONEY PROJECTIONS/DISCUSSIONS 2024

I think YSN is still going strong. I just went there and found this from yesterday.

Nice. I don’t pay attention to it until football season usually.

Hopefully jaws will have a report after glenoak tonight
Ask and you shall receive....lol
The Irish won 20-7 in a half of play. Taylor had a big 60+ yard td reception that he took to the house after getting a short pass over the middle. The running game looked good, Balog and a long run in the 15 play portion of the scrimmage. Fecko and Frangos ran really well also. I was especially impressed with the speed of Fecko hitting the hole. He's going to be special. DC looked very comfortable at QB and made some nice passes. He isn't too quick to pull it down and take off, which is good. The line played really well. The young guys inside held their own in the first real varsity action. The line will be fine this season.

Defensively we are fast. Teams are going to have a very hard time getting outside on us. Glenoak runs two TEs, 3 inch split, run it up the gut type offenses and our d-line and LBs played the run game really well. They fly to the ball. They didn't have much of a pass game so it was hard to get a full read on the DBs but they looked good.

Overall I came away with a good feeling for the season. We need to clean up a few things, ball security and a couple dumb penalties, which we will. Next week should be a good one. Word has it that Walsh got "beat" by Fitch tonight, so we'll see.

Great write up. I wonder if this says more about Walsh or Fitch.

Anyone know if WKBN will be broadcasting the game Thursday? I understand they are picking games for Friday but I haven’t seen anything about Thursday. I’m out of town and I’m hoping I can catch it on there vs YSN

Found my own answer lol. WKBN stated in a YouTube video a few minutes ago that the game will in fact be on TV

For those who watched, how did the run defense look? Last week was a bit concerning.
The run defense looked much improved from week 1. Guys were where they needed to be and they did a nice job of clogging up the middle. Hartley had one very long sustained drive that resulted in a touchdown. On that possession, Hartley had two other touchdowns called back on holds, including a very long touchdown run. There were still a few missed tackles, but that's okay. The biggest problem with the defense was the personal fouls, even though I think they were iffy calls.

This was a very encouraging game for the Irish. I think Hartley is better than the score indicated, but it seemed like they were the team with the 3 hour bus ride and just made mistake after mistake to begin the game. Going down 19-0 in the first qtr to this offense is tough for anyone to overcome. Also, DC looked really, really good throwing the ball.

Run defense was fantastic. Hartley's whole offense is based on 3 inch splits, grind it out on the ground, 3 yds and a cloud ofdust and our D-line completely dominated the line of scrimmage. The Hawks looked demoralized and uninterested in continuing to play once it got to 19-0. They did have a nice drive for a td but we answered immediately and that was all she wrote.

Living in just 70 miles away, I made the trek to Columbus to see this year's Ursuline edition. I try to make it to Youngstown at least once in the fall and catch the Irish annually. There are many alums who settled in this part of the state (Cincinnati/Dayton/Columbus) as part of the "Youngstown Diaspora." I thoroughly enjoyed the game (despite the continuous 92 degrees) and the nice crowd who made it down from the Valley. I sure was impressed with our Irish. What a difference coaching makes. I figure that with the new Ohio Catholic Conference that Ursuline and Mooney will be visiting the capitol city at least once every fall. There is ssoooo much talent this season.

Did we add another guy in the box? Or still the 3-3-5? I was unable to make it to this one.

This is the first installment of my "Mahoning Valley NCAA Report" for the 2024 college football season. While my main goal for the site is to promote Warren G. Harding football, this project gives me an opportunity to shine a light on the collegiate careers of all of the area's young men.

If anybody notices any names that are missing (I'm sure that there's quite a few) or if you have any additional information, please let me know ASAP. Thanks in advance!

I’ll be shocked if Ursuline doesn’t win by 3 scores. This isn’t a Farrell team like they’ve had
Yeah. This will be very lopsided. Farrell has had a major drop off. The RB is very good. Shifty and hard to bring down despite his size. Other than him, they just aren't that good.
