Ursuline & Cardinal Mooney prospects for 2025

If my memory serves me right Cardinal Mooney couldn't relocate to Canfield several years ago because they didn't have the money "up front." I can't imagine that the major building project proposed at Ursuline would be any different, unless Bishop Bonner has a different policy going forward than Bishop Murry did. I know that the current bishop has said that Ursuline is the most solvent high school of the six in the Diocese of Youngstown.
The entire project I think is around 10M in contrast to the 30M relocation of Mooney (2013 so who knows how much it would be today). The land is already acquired to the extent that we need. The only building remaining on that side of Ursuline is the auto body shop on Madison Ave, which if it hasn’t sold by now I can’t imagine it will in the near future.

IMO the approval of this scale of a project is kind of the writing on the wall for mooney. Unless there is a large influx of students this within the next 10 years I can’t see both schools remaining independent. I guess as long as they have money on the south side the doors will stay open.

So you are saying that the Diocese of Youngstown has given the green light to move forward? I hope you are right.

This is a very exciting project for the U. What exactly is the building going to be used for, and how will that differ from what is already in the main building? If I recall, the orginal sketches had basketball courts, but I didn't think there was a need for that given the excellent condition of the original gym. Am I missing something obvious?

Definitely a need for gym space. Having additional space will help these kids go home at a decent hour. Unless something has changed since I was there, these practices regularly go to 8/9pm. Girls and boys will be able to practice at the same, or when the other team has a game/volleyball has the gym.

We can have the grandest plans from here to Timbuctoo, but nobody seems to know if this is definatly going forward.

Nice! Where will this building be located at?

From what I understand, the original plan for Harding's facility was to include basketball courts. In any case, that plan was scratched, which makes sense because it's attached to the school pretty close to the large & small gyms.
Right next to Ursuline’s main academic building. It’s going to replace the convent that is currently there. We only used that convent for our forensics class because it looked like a crime scene in there lol.

According to the URSULINE ALUMNI QUARTERLY Spring 2025: $8 million has been pledged. $2.2 million has already been received through capitol campaign. Total cost is $12 million. These are good numbers. Call Fr. Richard Murphy 330-744-4563 to "join our loyal sons and daughters already on board." We may be able to "move some dirt" this summer.

I agree but so far everyone has turned us down
Massilon had signed a contract right before we contacted them. All others said no thank you. IV might be the only option left at this point.
Mannnnn I wish we have played y'all instead hopefully we can get some together next year . I loved playing the Irish

Every school with open enrollment is the same. There’s no difference between a private school and an open enrollment school. Mahoning Valley has a lot of these schools. Ursuline’s schedule is all open enrollment opponents, except maybe Farrell, Pa.
Stop the bs no they are not 😂😂. Fitch is just scary and any team with a pulse they take their ball and run but open enrollment is not the same as a parochial school.

Correct. Open enrollment is not the same. Open enrollment public schools don't have the academic excellence and the faith-based community that parochial schools have to attract families concerned for the long-term wellbeing of their children. Moving on....

Ahhh, my bad. It’s difficult to follow this thread having both Mooney and Ursuline together.
I agree! I don't think there are any Mooney people left on here. Except YTown! Just other school's fans talking for them. Should actually just be a Ursuline thread.

Still CMHS folks are welcome. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ 🙏. Except week 10 of the football season. Then all bets are off. ☘️

So when does the camp circuit start? I see Snyder has been to a few on his own and some of the QBs have gone to some skill camps.

They leave on Thursday. First stop is Auburn. They are also going to Alabama, Florida, FSU and South Florida for camps. They are also stopping in Knoxville and checking out UT on the way home. Its going to be an awesome trip for the boys. Im jealous, haha.

Some of the kids have gone to some camps individually already and there will be a few more after the trip as well.

The Irish set off on the camp trip at the crack of dawn this morning. First stop, Auburn.

As a side not, now that PJ Fecko has been hired as the AD for the Youngstown school conglomeration I would think that they would be back on the schedule for next season. His son will be a senior for the Irish.

Ursuline should be loaded once again. With the Hickory transfer Phillips playing opposite Taylor, if he doesn't decide to go to Mooney, they will be a difficult matchup for opposing defenses this year.

He's not going to Mooney. Both are on the bus as we speak. It will be interesting to see how the does at the Auburn 7v7. Should be some good competition.

And don't forget another receiver Ray Javey who was really good last year as a sophomore.

Hopefully some offers come out of the trip
