U14 (Schoolboy) Ohio Freestyle & Greco
Attention:
If you are a wrestler looking to improve in the off season, a great option is to try wrestling Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. If you look at the best wrestlers at the next level, most, if not all, have a solid Freestyle or Greco-Roman background.
There are many clubs around the state that promote both styles and I am sure almost all have middle school aged (U14) kids allowed in their clubs. GO JOIN ONE!!!! And get out there and compete.
The premier U14 event nationally is the U14 (Schoolboy) Duals in June. In order to wrestle at this event, you need to make the Ohio National Team. The U14 team takes the freestyle and Greco-Roman state champ from each weight class that wrestles at the U14 State tournament. The State Tournament this year is held May 15 at Game Time Sports 5151 Bogles Run Rd., Urbana 43078.
You do not need to qualify for this tournament to wrestle in it. You can just show up and wrestle!!
Ohio has a rich wrestling history and success in the U14 National Duals. A lot of big Ohio wrestling names have been on this Schoolboy team and have gone on to achieve great success at the next level. In 2019, both the Ohio Greco-Roman and Freestyle teams placed in the top 8 and were All-Americans, which is a great result, but one we hope to improve on. The key to improvement is making sure some of our best Ohio kids participate in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman and come to the team trials on May 15.
The best part about the U14 Team is that it is not handpicked, you must show up and win your weight class to earn the spot on the team. However, we need the best U14 kids in Ohio to show up and want to represent their state to try to win a national title in Indianapolis in June.
We look forward to seeing everyone throughout the freestyle and Greco-Roman season, and good luck!

it is a shame that everything under u14 was cancelled. Our kids are traveling to other states to compete in free and greco. Ohio does have a very rich history. Sadly, we are falling off where we have always been. I wonder if the lack of emphasis on building youth free and greco is a part of it. In 2019, we placed top 8? That is disappointing for a state that wants to be the premeir state for the sport of wrestling. That means 7 other states are beating Ohio. That should not happen

Spent over 10 years with this team coaching and what a great experience for the kids. Have had many "great ones" compete on this team. Best event in this country for this age group IMO! If wrestlers want to challenge themselves against the nations' best, this is the team to be on! Hoping for a large turnout this weekend. Good luck to everyone who competes to make the team.
