In a game that showcased exceptional pitching on both sides, the Lancaster Gales fell to the Lebanon Warriors 2-0 on Saturday, ending their season in the state semifinals, despite Ashlin Mowery's fanning 18 Warriors in Akron.
Mowery pitched a remarkable game, allowing just four hits and two runs over nine innings while walking three. However, it was the Warriors' Sophia Sheidler who earned the win, pitching a shutout and allowing eight hits while striking out 10 and walking four.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the ninth inning, when Lebanon broke through with two singles. Kennedy Jauch singled, scoring one run, and Sophia Sheidler drove in the second run, securing the Warriors' 2-0 victory.
Hailey Rings led the Gales with two hits in three at-bats, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Warriors' strong pitching. Ella Tuebner, Jane Leuzinger, Jauch, and Emma Sheidler each collected one hit for Lebanon Varsity Warriors, with Jauch and Sheidler driving in one run each.
Lancaster ends their remarkable season at 28-3 in the state semifinals for the first time in school history. Lebanon went on and defeated Centerville 3-1 to win the D-I State Championship.

"Lions Fall Short in State Title Game: Wheelersburg's Strong Offense Proves Too Much"
Liberty Union’s season came to a close on Friday, as they fell 10-0 to Wheelersburg in the state title game. Despite a strong effort, the Lions were unable to overcome the Pirates' potent offense.
Wheelersburg got off to a strong start, scoring five runs in the first inning. Mylee Gleim laid down a sacrifice bunt to score the first run, and the Pirates continued to add to their lead throughout the game. Kaylynn Carter and Jalynn Drake each contributed to the scoring, and Makenzie Mullens added to the total with a single in the first and a run-scoring hit in the third.
The Pirates' pitching staff was led by Carter, who pitched six innings and allowed just two hits while striking out nine and walking one, while the Lions' pitching staff, led by Suzie Shultz and Eden Wilson.
The Lions' offense was limited to just two hits, with Shultz and Payton Hochradel each collecting one hit. The Pirates' offense was led by Drake, who collected three hits in four at-bats. Ava Estep, Carter, and Mullens each drove in two runs, and Gleim and Catie Boggs each collected two hits apiece
The Lions will finish the season with a record of 29-2 and a state runner-up trophy.
