If you think the right/left battle involves only two sides then you have no clue about either group.
And it's nice to say the "far" right & left are not majorities. But how do you know that and what do you define as "far" right or "far" left?
From what I can see the Independents are no longer the deciding factor in Presidential races.
The differences between the left and right in almost every aspect of life means that picking a side is a fundamental way to protect your own interests. It's actually a matter of survival. Think about the different responses of the left & right to taxes, border security, guns, crime, immigration, covid lock downs, critical race theory and government spending. I could add another 50 items if you like. EVERY one of these things impacts your and your family's existence.
The real question is how could you not pick sides?
Trump actually had approval ratings above 50% (Rasmussen) during the last few weeks before the election.
Trump was beaten by covid. If covid did not happen Trump would be POTUS.

If Trump would have pushed his drive to fast track a covid vaccination and encouraged the population to take the vaccine as he eventually took it, he would have won the election. Nobody to blame but himself.

His behavior after the November election alienated many undecided voters and even some erstwhile supporters. He fumed and fulminated, contested the election results without winning in court, and stampeded GOP congressional leaders over the size of the next round of stimulus checks. His refusal to accept certified vote totals challenged basic constitutional norms. That behavior hurt the candidates he ostensibly backed in Georgia, costing his party its Senate majority. Outgoing Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was furious and said so publicly. Most of his Republican colleagues agreed but remained silent. They knew Trump would retaliate for any criticism and his die-hard supporters would back him.
Democratic leaders have decided their party should:
- Not moderate their legislative proposals or compromise with Republicans.
- Pass as many large, progressive policies on their wish list as possible, even if voters oppose them and the policies lack a broad national consensus.
- Make their new policies permanent by making them entitlements, which are difficult to repeal.
- Convert their temporary advantage on Capitol Hill into a long-term one, if possible, by adding two new states (expected to add four additional Democratic senators) and packing the federal courts (expected to override existing conservative judicial majorities).
Democrats could never have attempted these policies without control of the Senate. For that, they thank Donald Trump every day. Silently, of course. GOP office holders are silent, too. They can’t utter that obvious truth since Trump still controls the party, not in some titular sense but in a very real one. Any Republican he opposes will face a serious primary opponent. If history is any guide, the insurgent is likely to win. So, unhappy Republican incumbents (and major party donors) grumble behind the scenes and worry about whether Trump will run again in 2024. Until he decides, he blocks the party’s next crop of presidential candidates. None can afford to incur Trump’s wrath since they need his voters.
While Republicans try to scrape their elephant off the canyon floor and revive it, Democrats are busy propelling their donkey toward the same precipice. They have logged on to Acme Supply and ordered truckloads of anvils, boomerangs, and clever traps. As Wile E. Coyote would say, “Genius.”

No the virus didn't beat Trump, Trump's handling of it from the outset and his lying throughout last year about it, DID. You won't be writing the history books Lotty. It won't be kind. The voters saw the incompetence in crisis and his failure to lead . PERIOD . If you can't even admit the MAN lost and the virus didn't beat him? Can't help you . It was a world wide pandemic , many leaders were seen ina better light and are doing fine.. If he had the ability to lead effectively from February through the election and wasn't a buffoon? He is POTUS. No question about that . I agree. With any leader a crisis is ALWAYS an oppurtunity to show your stuff . What you have . From say January though the fall? The MAN was shown to be lacking , BIG TIME. It was an oppurtunity for him to show what he had in terms of leadership. He failed .The people around him flat lied to the American People .

But that emotion is surely clouding your judgement . Most reasonable even further right guys can admit that he was very erratic at best in his leadership last year leading up to the election. He was never going to be competent in a situation like this. Strong leadership ability is not in his DNA .
You can still root for him as the leader of the party guess. Or in his legal problems that may crop up as he looks to places to live where extradition may be more difficult lol

Trump took covid to seriously and that's why he mishandled the lock down part. For crying out loud Trump was on TV almost every day with his group of sad sack medical bureaucrats. Elevating Fauci to a position of leadership was Trump's fatal mistake.
The bottom line is that the Trump administration handled the two things they were responsible for brilliantly:
* At the start of the pandemic the Trump administration flowed needed PPE & Health Care Capacity resources to those parts of the country at risk of having their medical infrastructure overwhelmed. This was a success as not a single American health care system collapsed.
* The Trump administration loosened up regulations and took on the financial risk of vaccine production scale-up as part of Operation Warp Speed. This was a spectacular success with millions of doses of multiple safe & effective vaccines available in only 10 months.
It takes powerful blinders to ignore these facts.
Nonsense. The left and right are drifting apart because Americans have split in their thinking. It makes it easier I guess to blame the radicals on both sides but that's a cop out IMO.
I threw out a list of topics in which the left & right disagrees vehemently. I didn't say which were right or wrong just that there was fundamental disagreement. These include:
Abortion
Guns
Border Security
Immigration
Critical Race Theory
BLM
Law Enforcement
Constitution
Definition of Racism
Free Speech
Political Correctness
Climate Change
Covid Lock Downs
Men using women's public rest rooms
Taxes
Regulations
Family Structure
Education
And I could go on and on and on. Which of these are amendable to compromise? How many of these are you or others willing to give up on? Nobody is telling me that we need to have tight border security and control immigration. It's common sense to me. On the other hand the left sees open borders as morally right because we're all just citizens of the world. And they see my stance on this as racist. So where do we compromise on just this one critical issue?

As I stated many times before I could give a crap about the personality. I do give a crap about the results. His results were damn near miraculous compared to what the country had become accustomed to. If the pubs put forward someone that can be more polished than Trump while moving forward or improving upon his policies, I'm in. If it happens to be Trump again, I'm in. Four years of this will be devastating.

You have one side that treats Trump like a demigod. You have the other side who's only plan was to put a figurehead as their candidate with no clear political plan. What difference does it make what topics which side supports? With no bipartisanship and no room for compromise the basic platforms are moot. So much of each sides "platforms" are window dressing with no substance. If these are the only two "sides" there is to choose from I will pass.

I give President Trump total props for his leadership in getting covid vaccine to the public in an unprecedented time period. By not owning what he accomplished and downplaying the virus he did himself in. That is on him. Nobody had to cheat to win the election. Trump gave it away.

Abortion: I believe it should be the choice of the woman and man. If either wants the kid then no abortion. Personally, I would never go for an abortion unless there was a health issue...
Guns: The more the better. No guns for convicted criminals though. One should be able to protect themselves and their home with deadly force if needed. Simply put.... just don't steal from people.....
Border Security: Strengthen it and do not let anyone in that is not suppose to be here. If one does not like the laws on immigration I would be open to changes.
Immigration: See border security
Critical Race Theory: Nope....... no way in favor of more brainwashing......
BLM: Marxist scam organization that I consider to be a domestic terrorist group. I will in no way back this group what so ever. I do believe that all law abiding citizens regardless of race, sex, and wealth, should be treated equally. Those who give respect should receive it but for those who give attitude get what they get.
Law Enforcement: 100% support the officers who have one of the toughest jobs out there. I am open to some changes such as the elimination of quotas as well as getting rid of political influence within the force. I am 100% for increase funding and totally against defunding of the police.
Constitution: no comment
Definition of Racism: The belief that one race is superior to others
Free Speech: YES..... for the most part...
Political Correctness: No..... one should believe in something because it is what they truly believe.
Climate Change: Against drastic changes..... improvements are being made all the time but I am against the Green Agenda. This is coming from someone who wants to eliminate all concrete and live in tree's!!!!!! I am though rational..... changes are fines when it comes in small implements.
Covid Lock Downs: Yes... at first when not much was known.... but once we knew who were the most at risk then it should of been opened back up with limited restrictions and those who are high risk should be taken care of it if they are unable to work, shop, or what not.....
Men using women's public rest rooms: I don't really care..... I do not socialize in the bathroom and coming from Europe where everything is a bit more "relaxed" it does bug me.... that being said if you were born with a dick you are a guy.... if you were born with girly parts you are a girl. You can choose later on in life what you want to be but your birth sex should always be what it is....
Taxes: Less is better...... Get off your butt and work and do not depend on the government for everything.....
Regulations: Not sure what this is....
Family Structure: I am a bit old school as I feel if you have kids then someone should be at home taking care of them. I don't care if it is the woman or man. Nor do I care if it is two guys or two chicks..... What people do are there time is totally up to them and none of my business.
Education: Teach the basics. Those who want to attend College have a different education base than those who go to a trade school to train for a job. None of this political woke crap brainwashing these kids..... They have plenty to worry about and let them decide as adults what is right or wrong.

And that's my point Vamp. The divide has grown so wide and deep that I don't think anything close to a majority of Americans occupy the "magical" middle ground anymore. IMO there is no more middle ground.
The reason I feel we live in dangerous times is because a majority of Americans now fall into either the hard left or hard right category.
I happen to agree with most of your points and like me I suspect you're not willing to compromise on many of them. You feel you're at the right place with these issues and compromise equals surrender. And I'm sure those on the left are as solid in their beliefs to.
So yes we are at a point in history where people need to pick a side or accept a total surrender of their core principles on dozens of issues important to them.
The problem I am seeing. At one time were close friends with this family. Here are recent statements from them. We have stopped wasting our time listening to the news. Wife, I can not stand Trump. Husband, I hate Trump. Then I ask what do you think of Biden's policies? No response. I asked myself do they even know what his policies are and what is happening because of them? What I have learned from talking to many people that vote Democrat. They have no idea what they are voting for and what the people they are voting into office hold for beliefs. They do not care because they hate Trump.
