CES in for Marte, other than that, same lineup as yesterday.

If you’re willing to put CES at 3B, then put Marte at SS and let Elly sit. Marte is 8 for his last 16 and has an OPS around .960 in September.

Elly’s September OPS is .501 and he’s been making too many errors.

Bell is going to Bell. The obvious answer is CES in DH for Fraley. But instead he sits down a hot hitter (Marte) and weakens the defense. Clueless.

Don't get me wrong, I like Fraley, but he has 3 hits in his last 7 games, and 9 hits with 1 RBI in his last 15 games. His foot is not right. CES and Marte are the two hottest guys on the team.

A couple of Reds sidebars trending the last several hours...

Attendance - There was approximately 15,000 who showed up on a Monday night. A great crowd for a weekend game is anything around 30,000. Some say this is bad because the team is contending, it's could be Joey's last ride in town, etc. Here's my stance, just because your butt is in a seat at GABP does not make you a supporter or not. We've seen countless times of people who are at the ballpark and have no idea what baseball even is, it's just a place for them to go. I consider myself a big supporter of the team, and I may be in attendance less than 5 games a season. Rare is it that for a game I'm not either watching on TV, listening on the radio or a combo of both. We've debated on here countless times the whys and wherefores of attendance. School is in session, even at 6:40pm, younger school kids will not be brought to games. Also, most kids families who are sports oriented, pick the sport, soccer, football, volleyball, there is an endless supply of youth sports that I feel largely cut out a big part of a weekday fanbase.

Votto - Some are drawing a conclusion that this could be Joey's last homestand, either as a Red or possibly ever as a player. I thought Joey had a great answer last night when asked. The fact that there has been no mention of this being it for him tells me that there is still a chance he comes back next season. I have a hard time believing he'll play for another organization, so either they work something out next year or he retires. I feel even in retirement he'll be part of the organization in some way.

Yes, my only balk at today's lineup is Marte is arguably our hottest hitter. But hey, we don't ever try to think along with them.

I thought attendance didn’t matter?

I feel bad for people who got guilt-tripped by social media and/or the regular media into attending last night, only to sit through a moribund four-hit performance on top of an unnecessary bullpen game.

Tuesday crowds have typically been anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 larger than Monday crowds all season because of 3-2-1 Tuesdays. So you figure an extra 6,000 or so decided to show up after the public outcry about Monday’s poor attendance.

Attendance is always a complex subject because numerous factors go into it, but to me the biggest takeaway from being unable to drum up consistently acceptable attendance as the team fights for a playoff spot is:

A quarter century of losing has decayed the fanbase — mostly, this means plenty of potential new/young Reds fans either root for another team or don’t pay attention to baseball at all. This is just a guess, but I think Reds support within the city limits is not as strong as a lot of people would think.

I think the Reds have a strong regional fanbase when you include the suburbs, Dayton, Louisville, Lexington, Columbus, Indianapolis, etc. But most of those folks aren’t going to go to 6:40 weekday games. That’s a big reason why you see good crowds during summer weekend series and awful crowds for weekday series every April, May and September.

It doesn't but some media people crap on fans who don't clear their schedues and run down to the ballpark 4 times a week. Must have worked though, 24,000 tonight. That's a heck of a Tuesday night crowd, especially vs. the Twins who proably had little to do with it.
🤣

Why would anyone give a damn about a DJ on the radio complaining about attendance?

I can't fathom how weak minded you would have to be to allow a DJ to shame you into going to a game just to boost attendance for a billionaires franchise.

Bad day for the Reds - all of the other contenders won. Really need the W this afternoon.

It seems like for as long as I can remember the soft-tossing guys like Maeda have caused the Reds problems. Even with a whole new batch of Reds this year it seems to hold true. Over the years guys like Kyle Hendricks, Maeda, Rich Hill, Ryu, Cliff Lee have befuddled Reds hitters. Last night we were mostly clueless against Maeda. I have no answer, just an observation.

heard at 14Reds house:
"Mommy - the radio man said I am a bad fan if I don't go to GABP to the game. Can I have $20 for a ticket and a hot dog?? I will come right home after I promise!"

Do they still call them DJs? I mean, there aren’t any discs in radio anymore

This is it, Reds need to win today and take at least 2-3 from the Pirates this weekend. IMO this weekend will determine the Reds fate. They will have Greene, Abbott, Williamson and Phillips pitching I would think and this is their best shot at making a final push. The Dbacks are at the Yankees, the Marlins host the Brewers and the Cubs host the Rockies. We should have a much clearer picture of the Reds chances come Sunday night

Even if the Reds don’t make it to the playoffs, what a fun year it has been! The amazing amount of young players the Reds have gained invaluable experience of a playoff push and what it takes to get there that will only help them in the future. The Reds should be primed for the next 4-5 years to be really competitive.
Exactly....the Reds are playing with house money. Would be great to get into the playoffs but it's been a fantastic season. The tough part to swallow is that the Reds were in first place Aug 1 and the Brewers killed it from there.

Reds need to leave Friedl at leadoff next year no matter who is pitching, India is NOT a lead off hitter.
Friedl CF
Marte SS
McClain 2B
Steer LF
CES 1B
Elly 3B
India/Fraley DH
Benson RF
Stephenson C
Would be my everyday line up

It was little more than the Brewers killing it. The front office was apathetic about making the playoffs at the trade deadline and other teams weren't.
