The 2nd best Texas High School football program

Naughty is probably right.

Lakeland fans definitely know flukes.

Yeah, exactly. Lakeland had escape after escape after escape last year. They weren't even the best team in Florida. Yet . . . . they proudly boast back to back national titles when we all know that claim is a farse.

But hey, let the high school kids keep the dream alive (however false the dream may be).

Here is how Freeman looks at the Lakeland season in 2006 and how it relates to the polls:

"1) SLC VS LAKELAND

The "you don't drop if you don't lose" mentality mentioned above is the culprit here. Without that flaw in the way the subjective lists work, there'd be nothing to discuss. If the seasons of the two teams were compared at the end of the season (with no where-did-they-start-in-the-polls bias) it's doubtful anyone would seriously try to make the case that the two are close. SLC was even more dominant than in '05, playing against the toughest playoff division in the country. Lakeland had multiple narrow escapes against above-average teams and had only one impressive win to speak of-- and that win became less impressive as the season wore on as it became clear that St. X was not near being the class of Ohio. They were shown to be a shadow of Colerain who were bested themselves by Davidson. Simply no way to build a case that Lakeland had a stronger season, but of course, no one is even trying to do that. All (some) are saying is "they started higher!" All this just because SLC was expected to have a dropoff that they didn't end up having?"
