Fast approaching the largest meet in the nation. As someone that works the computer room, I don't get to watch many swims, but I am excited to see some times in a fast setting after the breaks intense workouts.

Truth be told, I haven't followed many times this year, so I can't give a good opinion about who I think will win races...but I'm curious as to thoughts on which races people are watching with the most interest.

Winner predictions?

It's interesting to note that Brower isn't swimming the 100 breast. We are missing out on what could have been a great preview of the district meet which is sure to be an exciting race with Brower, Bader, and Pohlmann. Still, look for a good race with Bader trying to defend his title against Pohlmann, Listerman, and Rutter.

Who were the boy/girl swimmer of the meet?

How about those guys from Dayton Oakwood? Too bad they DQ'd in prelims of the 200 medley relay. They had a decent chance of setting the meet record in that relay, and would have moved into second team place with any points from the champ final in that event.

Do they have enough points to beat University at the state meet?

Who were the boy/girl swimmer of the meet?

Dayton Oakwood's freshman Patrick Mulcare with two of the most impressive swims of the meet, winning the 2 back in 1:51.35 and the 2 IM in 1:53.94. Add in his 400MR breast split of 58.84 and he has my vote.

On the girl's side, Mason's Zoe Thatcher as the triple winner 200/500/1650.

Even though dayton oakwood was not in the 200 medley relay finals, Moeller still pulled off a big win with a time of 1:36.41. Backstroker Harry Hamiter and Flyer Christian Josephson had great splits.

I always enjoy talking about this meet before and after (was really busy the week before so didn't get to start the discussion), but I had a lot of fun at finals both nights. It's always fun to see the kids swim fast and to try to figure out what teams are putting too much emphasis on a meet in January. Some teams look like their kids were rested and some teams were suited up(Moeller) while others were in team suits all weekend.

Dayton Oakwood looked great all weekend and it will be fun to see how they do at the D2 State meet. Mulcare was very impressive as a freshmen. A couple other younger swimmers that were fun to watch were Kevin George of Moeller, Higgins of Dayton Oakwood, the younger Pohlman at Beavercreek and Ross Westrick from Fairfield. This meet you see a lot of Juniors and Seniors do really well, but I enjoy seeing the youth compete with the big boys as they typically only get faster and you see them at the top of the state meet in a year or two.

Overall the meet was a lot of fun and sets this final month or so of the season to be a lot of fun. Conference championships are the next meet for most and I look forward to when the entries are posted for sectionals across the state.
