SVSM Irish 2024 and 2025

because the kids in that program would most likely want to continue to be coached by the guy they have been. just a logical progression.
There is a thing called progression and as kids move up, they need to be coached by higher level coaches, not Pee Wee coaches. I can see STV becoming like some of these programs that have 45 coaches on the sidelines and the kids don't know who to listen to. But that's just my opinion.
BUT, at the same token my youth coaches moved up to HS and we won a State Championship, so it can work. I know I'm being antithetical.

I understand your point. Don't think Doran Grant will run it like that tho. Just need to build some talent pipelines. Cupboards were bare at STVM last year.

Hoban talent pipeline for last 5 years-

SVSM talent pipeline in recent years-

Here's hoping this changes.

Time will tell but you may be onto something.....
From what i heard that seems to be Doran's imminent focus. Sounds obvious, but talent pipeline is the cure. Building that to 5th-7th graders is the way. Build from the bottom up. As for this year, just hope they are competitive in some games and win a few. Schedule is brutal for a program in a transition year.

I don't know that the Irish faithful have the patience to wait on those 5th to 7th graders.

Patience is key….I recall the great school principal Joe Clark went to Eastside NJ HS, said “I want a winning football program.” Hired a great coach, 1st year Varsity went 1-9, 2nd Year 1-9, third year 3-7. Clark fired him. They didn’t have a winning season for years after. The Coach went on to another school, won 8 state championships, a 55 game winning streak, sent over 200 players to college and numerous players to the pros including 2 of his sons. What Clark had was no patience -btw, during those three years his freshman, sophomore and JV teams never lost a game. He always said Eastside had more talent than any of his state championship teams. Patience is key

Just heard Hoban hired former head coach Marcus Watley. Any truth to that?
I don't have any idea if this is true or not. But it makes sense. Wattley's forte is defense. He was the DC at SVSM prior to becoming the HC, and the DE coach at Akron U prior to the McK HC opportunity came along.

Hoban's DC is now the McK HC - so the dots connect.

According to his brother, Rob, yes it is.

I am glad as well, 52.

But that is what is called real life in the real world. Situations like this happen every day of the week that end in a "y".

articles of a high school hiring a coordinator has never happened in the state of Ohio or ever it’s just community
oh ok. its official though? defensive coordinator? seems like this one deserves a write up somewhere. a former stvm coach who had a major scandal at a local high school gets hired by an akron school seems newsworthy to me. What do I know though.

Only newsworthy to those petty individuals that have nothing else to do with their lives but worry about an irrelevant HS Coaching assistant's past (unless it was inappropriate conduct, and in that case couldn't pass the background check). In the greater scheme of things if Hoban and their community approve, then nobody else's business. STVM backers have enough to worry about, like winning more than one game this upcoming season, which is VERY iffy and doesn't look likely, but people are hopeful (lets hope Elyria Catholic hasn't gotten any better and Benedictine falls apart at end of season). 2-8

petty? no i think its newsworthy. whether you think so or not is irrelevant. no need to get angry about it William. it was newsworthy when STVM wrestling coach was disgraced so I feel like the opposite should be true for another Akron school. Just my opinion. You're allowed to have yours :)
