I didn’t say there was anything wrong with it, I just said that it is boring. Also, if you get down by a couple of scores, the game is often over because you aren’t “designed” to score quickly. “Three yards and a cloud of dust”, is a saying for a reason. What’s wrong with running the The T or Wing Perry ran it successfully and i believed they shut us out with it. In addition Akron Garfield in 2019 and now ever since haven’t had a record lower that 5-5 or 6-4 with the exception of 2 down 4-6 year even beat longtime rivals buchtel and ellet.
Boring and to run it correctly and effectively, extreme discipline. There is no room for creativity on the players part. Any offense you employ can have success, but the Perry Wing T is a bit of an outlier because they have made that their identity, but even they have struggled to get their kids to buy in lately.
Hindsight is 20/20 but Mansell was always the best QB on that roster. Grant has an uphill battle but we’ve seen quick turnarounds happen before, I don’t see it happening but I’m pulling for him.Boring and to run it correctly and effectively, extreme discipline. They were set at that position for 3 years but the same thing that happened back then for their best three QBs to leave is happening now, so don't expect things to change unless someone steps up and says "no more." Grant has his work cut out for him, and it might take a few seasons, but by season 4 or 5 he should have it figured out, just have to get rid of the dead weight.Hindsight is 20/20 but Mansell was always the best QB on that roster. Get some talent in there by year they can be humming. Needs some lineman and a few stud sprinkled across the roster and the rest will take care of itself. Hoban had steady but not spectacular QB play when Tyrell came in but they were pretty loaded in the trenches. Best of luck to Coach Grant seems like he may need it.They were set at that position for 3 years but the same thing that happened back then for their best three QBs to leave is happening now, so don't expect things to change unless someone steps up and says "no more." I'll be perfectly honest, if he doesn't at least win 4 games this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they ran him out. And they don't have anything coming back. The WR is probably not coming back because he had a heckuva year in basketball. From what I see, they have no QB (I don't care what anyone says, they don't have a QB), they have a 2 safeties and a LB coming back. But with that said, would anyone send their kid there after 2 straight coaches were gone after 2 years? I sure hope Grant has something up his sleeve. The question is- will the Irish faithful ever be patient enough to give anyone 4 or 5 years?
Heck, there were rumors already this off-season that some of the faithful were pushing for a change and identified Grant's successor.

Not sure who the QBs are but it’s not unreasonable to think one of the kids will make a leap after a strong winter and summer. They keep Mansel and he has some success it would have possibly caused transfers due to him being a 3 year starter but it also could have attracted a talented QB or two. It seemed clear he was better than Carter not sure what the staff saw but he stays things may look different.I'll be perfectly honest, if he doesn't at least win 4 games this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they ran him out. I doubt that happens. And it was opposite about the transferring. And it wasn't what the staff saw in Carter (wrong QB that they tried to replace Mansel with). No one transfers if Mansel stays (Prob), however due to him transferring folk left. You are right because if he stays they get the young man from Buchtel. So could have been Mansel, Taylor then Thomas and STV is set at the position until 2028. And the running game would have prospered last year. The kid now at Garfield doesn't leave, The big guy who quit stays....People forget the leadership impact that Mansel had/has.Not sure who the QBs are but it’s not unreasonable to think one of the kids will make a leap after a strong winter and summer. I was saying I could see kids transferring because he would have been a 3 year starter and kid(s) behind would have only had the opportunity to be a one year starter. Obviously a kid could have beaten him up but it’s doubtful. One of the worst things for St. V is Hoban being in a 5 year title drought, they’ve really kicked up their portal activity add in Walsh drastically improving since Alexander came… Grant just needs a few studs to take a leap of faith.I doubt that happens. Mansel leaves - Now All-State, All- District, All Conference headed to U of Charleston
Taylor leaves - Now All District, All- Conference 1 year left
BTW each had more total yards individually that STV had a team.
But we should look at the future. What does Grant need to do in order to right the ship? I think @Brooksie hit it on the head, be more competitive. But are STV faithful prepared to continue to lose even if they are competitive? Defensively can they get back to being physical and knocking heads. Offensively, can they sustain drives and not only rely on the big play that happens once a game.
I think we are all saying the same thing - just in a bit different ways.I was saying I could see kids transferring because he would have been a 3 year starter and kid(s) behind would have only had the opportunity to be a one year starter. He just needs to get a few really good players and the program can flip very quickly. I’m rooting for the Irish.I think we are all saying the same thing - just in a bit different ways.
Grant cannot worry about who chose to leave and what effect that had on the program. In the real world, people leave jobs for all kinds of reasons. Some make the previous situation better, some don't. Several years back, I had a coworker move on from our place of employment. He had been such a drag on everyone mentally that when we all came in for work Monday and he wasn't there - we all felt relief. The long standing cloud of negative energy was GONE.
Grant may be best served by adopting a program wide "Irish Against The World" mentality. Who gives a flying you know what that led to the program's current status? We are where we are. Like I posted previously, the faster we embrace that position , and start piecing together a realistic plan of action of how to reclaim the glory days, the better we will be.
There is something very, very special about a Friday night at Green Street when the Irish are competitive and successful. I want those days to return.
Kind of like the situation the Browns are in right now. I think I am going to puke if I see one more mock of passing on a QB at 2, to get one later. He just needs to get a few really good players and the program can flip very quickly. I’m rooting for the Irish.
Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter are legit but come on you have to take a QB at 2.Kind of like the situation the Browns are in right now. I think I am going to puke if I see one more mock of passing on a QB at 2, to get one later.
You must secure the most important positions on the field - FIRST.
PLAYERS. MATTER.
COACHES. MATTER.
And we appreciate the support from The 'Ville.
Well I find it funny you say that because I find that the scheme didn’t give them confidence to go out and be successful browns or stvm that’s why both need to get back to running the ballKind of like the situation the Browns are in right now. Which scheme are you talking about? 2 years ago, they could throw and run the ball. While everyone was berating that OC, it was personnel issues that was the problem after that. A week before Gabe left, they had a good squad who had supreme confidence. It was gone in one play during a scrimmage. The day he left, the team lost hope, they lost their leader. They lost hope because the coaches put their trust in a QB who shouldnt have even been on the depth chart. Then seven games into the season they realized their mistake but forces within wouldn't allow a complete shift and THAT destroyed the confidence the players had in the coaches. And they haven't had another player leader to step up since he left.Well I find it funny you say that because I find that the scheme didn’t give them confidence to go out and be successful browns or stvm that’s why both need to get back to running the ball
Exactly, but going 1-9 isn't exactly a good player magnet. He just needs to get a few really good players and the program can flip very quickly. I’m rooting for the Irish.
Aka - Who wants to be here AND put the work in? You do? Fine - you're in. All others need not apply.Exactly, but going 1-9 isn't exactly a good player magnet.
As for running the ball, they're going to need some linemen who are willing to hit the weight room. Last year their lines got pushed around, even by a D3 non-playoff team.
First you have to get the kids who want to be there....thats the first objective.Aka - Who wants to be here AND put the work in? You do? Fine - you're in. All others need not apply.
There's always 2026.Unfortunate it couldn’t be worked out
Really - Who's your source? Link? Or is it I know a guy at work whose brother in law's neighbor tried to get their kid in that school and that's what they heard....What happened to this school? Heard they are in financial turmoil?
Source for what? Nobody will argue about the financial hardships of the schools. Enrollment is in the toilet and they are just another APS school now with it being a voucher safe haven.Really - Who's your source? Link? A school's athletic success or lack thereof is not necessarily tied to its overall health ($$). many factors outside of the games come into play

I would not call them losers but they definitely need to clean that school up. Calling them losers is awfully strong and out of pocket. I will give them some time to clean up the school before I get that drastic!Loser![]()
Enrollment is roughly 625, which is pretty consistent with what it has been for while. Find me an APS school whose graduating class had $17 million in scholarship offers last year.Source for what? All of this could’ve possibly been avoided by so many scenarios but let’s be honest if Stvm doesn’t bring back a winning culture in and I mean with a quickness we could easily lose more boosters and investors.Which scheme are you talking about? 2 years ago, they could throw and run the ball. Fast forward to this past year, and the same thing happened. The same EXACT thing. The same EXACT result. Those kids deserved better. Grant gets a mulligan for this past season and will eventually figure it out and hopefully before it gets worse. He lost this past season the three weeks after he got hired.
