Saw Firestone. They are terrible. New Philly will be ok. Ellet May surprise people in the City. Barberton must find a QB and figure out how to Andrews the ball. He is a Man Child. He should be the tailback. Maybe Barberton should just run old Oklahoma option stuff with all the tailbacks they have! Put Andrews at QB!

Can’t run Triple with just one back. Unless you want to line up in the spread and make a slot your option guy, but then, why wouldn’t you put him in the backfield?

McKinley's Khris Williams fights for extra yards while being tackled by Green's CJ Dawson (58) and Antonio Martin (19) during a Sept. 17, 2021 high school football game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

Green’s Michael Schaal sacks Wooster’s quarterback Drew Becker for an 8-yard loss during the third quarter Friday, Nov. 12, 2021.

IMPACT PLAYERS: Green’s coaching staff wanted Antonio Martin to play mostly freshman football last season. But because of some injuries, Martin ended up playing a crucial role alongside brother Trey Martin as a slot receiver and cornerback on a team that reached a state semifinal. He caught 72 passes for 479 yards and three TDs. This season, he’ll be all over the field offensively while playing safety on defense. “He’s a kid that can go 1-on-1 on the outside but he’s carrying the ball and playing some slot receiver as well,” Mark Geis said. … Zach Baglia and Josh Just played a lot of snaps as sophomore slot receivers last year and now step into bigger roles in Green’s empty spread offense as juniors. Baglia caught a TD pass in the regional final win against Massillon. … Michael Schaal started playing some snaps on defense late last season as a 170-pound freshman and ended up making a nice contribution, including a sack in the regional semifinal win against Wooster. Schaal now is a 6-foot, 210-pound package of nastiness slated to start at left guard and defensive end. “He’s our strongest kid,” Geis said. “And he’s not nice.” … LB Matt Galemmo competed for playing time most of last season as a sophomore before becoming a mainstay during Green’s playoff run. He played one of his best games against Massillon with 5.5 tackles and a sack. Galemmo also could get carries at running back if the Bulldogs come out of their empty look. … Cody Seward played well at corner last season as a junior before an ankle injury hampered him late in the year.

WHAT’S NEW: Senior Robby Klockner (5-11, 170) and junior Samino Manson (6-2, 176) are competing to replace three-year starting QB Trevor Van Horn, and Geis likes what he’s seen from both. Klockner, a Green kid who transferred back from Hoban, is a traditional pocket passer, while the physical Manson is more of a running threat who backed up Van Horn last season. “I would never say both of them aren’t going to play because I could see both having an opportunity,” Geis said. … Jarrett Taylor was a starter at forward on Green’s regional semifinal basketball team as a sophomore and now takes his 6-foot-4 frame to the football field as a wide receiver. “He played so many big basketball games, you almost feel like he’s a returning starter, too,” Geis said. ... Junior Anthony Manderine is another slot receiver with a chance to play a big role.

OUTLOOK: Green hadn’t registered a winning season since 2012 before last year’s memorable run. The Bulldogs return only seven players with starting experience from that state semifinal team. “You lose so many key guys that weren’t just there for one year, but for three years,” Geis said. “But another part of it is a lot of these young kids gained a lot of experience last year whether they were in a game or not. They got to practice for an extra five weeks last year. So we saw a lot of young kids grow up over the course of the season and I really feel like the feel we have in camp is that these guys want to prove themselves. It’s their turn now.” … Geis is sticking with the five-wide offense, but it could look a little different this year. “We will be way more multiple in our empty (set) than we were last year,” he said. “I think last year we just made sure we moved fast and got it to our guys. But we’re going to do a little more out of it this year.”

I guess this will be the year we find out if Geis had a team or has built a program.

Word is that Stow had their @$$e$ handed to them yesterday by Fitch, including a broken leg for one of the kids competing for the QB job.

Sorry to hear their new coach got hammered on so soon. Especially sorry to hear about the injury. On a different note, Walsh’s program has done a 180 in the last 3 years. Does anyone have any info on them ? Who’s back ? Projections ?

I think Green would beat Barberton since the Bulldogs tied Wadsworth in their scrimmage and Barberton lost to Wadsworth by 17. Certainly Green would be the favorite. SVSM and East may be good, but they still have a lot to prove. Both are 0-1 and had losing seasons a year ago.

Green had a great season last year, and it looks like they still have their foot on the gas. I know it’s early, but I look for them to have a great season. I think if they avoid the injury bug, they’re top 5 in the County, and maybe a little higher than that. Their week 3 game with what Cleveland.com called a vastly improved Tallmadge team, may show us alot. Time will tell.

Barberton is a solid team but very slim on depth. Only the Qb doesnt play both ways. Magics were down 10-7 at half and drove deep with their first possession of the second half. Pick 6 right at the end pushed it to 24-7. Small senior class isnt helping. Magics will take lumps this year but will back strong next season. Ill still put them in top 10 due more to Summit County being pretty weak on quality teams
