Still Think NFL Overtime is the Worst in Sports

Go Buckeyes
Another great game ended in a boring OT tonight. I wish the NFL would make the change. I really enjoy HS and college FB overtimes. Even MLB with the silly rule of putting a runner on 2nd is far superior to the NFL.

At a minimum, the NFL should have 15 minute overtimes.

It used to be 15 minutes. When and why the change?
Also I will always think it's stupid for the 1st TD wins. You're essentially saying the coin flip winner determines the game

The rule I'd like to see change is the first team has to score a TD to end it while the 2nd team only needs a FG. Make both teams need a TD on their first possession to end the game.

Nothing is worse that baseball's. But that's not a product of caring who wins, it's only to preserve pitching because we simply will not require pitchers to get in true baseball shape.

One of the sports rules of overtime I don't like is soccer with the penalty kicks. The high school and college overtimes is really the same thing. To just arbitraily put a team in scoring position to start their drive just circumvents the game. The way NFL kickers can make them from 60 yards now, the NFL OT is just fine.

No way the NFL should go to the college or HS models. Whilte it is sorta interesting........

Takes too much out of the game.

However....i concur they need to have 15 MIN if they are going to just play 1 QTR.

however, i am OK if they did 10 minutes if they kept playing, with the 2nd 10 min qtr would result into a halftime.

We finally agree on something.

I wish the NFL would just adopt the overtime rules of college. There shouldn't be so much weight awarded to a coin flip. At the very least, give each team a chance to possess the ball no matter what.

I also hate the new kickoff. It doesn't even look like a real football play. Move the line up and make them squib it, let the receiving team line up right on the kick off team sort of like a punt, or really, just put it back to the way it was. I agree with the NFL trying to make the game safer, but this play is a joke.

Which rule? The one for the first two overtimes? Or the one for each OT after the second? I hate the alternating two point tries. Much prefer nfl. The only thing the nfl should do is eliminate coin flips. Visiting team gets the choice to start the game. Visiting team gets the choice to start OT, lol

I LOATHE the new kick off. Especially the onside kick. Only in the 4th quarter and only when trailing. I loved the element of suprise of the onside kick out of the blue.

Does anybody know the rules if a kicker accidentally squibs a kickoff? I can see it happening in poor weather

I think the overtime rule in the NFL is easily fixable. Just play 1 more 10 or 15 minute "quarter", no rules about who scores first or whether it has to be a TD or FG. If it's still even after that in the regular season it's a tie, in the playoffs play as many as needed. Make it 15 minutes in the playoffs.

Most of these overtime games end up going most of the 10 minutes anyway so I find it hard to believe the player safety element of shortening it really had a positive effect. I think playing another "quarter" makes it the most fair.
