5-set match to open the day as Mt Vernon takes down Lakota East. LE won 2 of the first 3 sets and MV came back to steal it. The team on the left side of the court from the ESP Media broadcast won every set.

MV def. LE 18-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-14, 15-10

Shout out to the Darby families who brought water for the Beavercreek community hit by the tornadoes. Class act.

Beavercreek gave Darby a better match than probably most expected, but they fall in 4.

Darby def. Beavercreek 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21

Walsh and LaSalle with a 5-set thriller in the first D2 semifinal.

Walsh def. LaSalle 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 15-9

Who won Alter-Watterson in the 2nd D2 semi-final last night?

Score isn’t even posted on the ohsvba site [emoji2373]

I fell asleep last night after Watterson went up 2-1 on Alter. I'll check out the video in a few minutes and post the scores.

X was better in every facet today. Seized momentum early and coasted. They’ll be tough to beat if they keep it up.

X is rolling and haven't lost to Moe this year. That would make the Crusaders due, but can't see X losing that one.

Watterson is hot, but I think Walsh is better in the D2 Final.

Thanks for posting the score.

Walsh Jesuit, who is Hoban’s main rival in D2 North, won this year’s D2 title with a pair of brothers OH and Opp, their setter and libero all sophomores. 2020 and 2021 they will be tough as well.

After the tournament has been completed, I like to come up with my own all tournament team. Apologies to division 2, but I typically only watch the division 1 matches

1. MVP - Brian Mauch: What a weekend for the South region POY.

St X posts stats on their Twitter and he put up some incredible numbers. Over the 3 matches (10 sets). Mauch had the following numbers:
Kills: 42 Blocks: 25 Digs: 26 Aces: 2

2. Will Connaughton - Led St. X in kills with 46 on the weekend. Above average back row play for someone his size.

3. Hunter Haas - Moeller libero with a very good read on hitters, covers so much space on his side of the court.

4. Noah Platfoot - Darby's undoing against St X was some very poor serve receive. Even the commentators made note of how the bad passing was less of an issue for a team like Darby since Platfoot was able to compensate for it so well. Incredible that this was still only his junior season.

5. Leo Kastner - St X setter was able to put his hitters in a position to succeed. He set the ball differently for Mauch vs Thaxton and Connaughton vs H Kastner because each of those hitters does better with a different type of set and he delivered very well all weekend

6. Brandon Grabow - This was my first time seeing Mt Vernon play this year, and wow, Grabow was very impressive. Extremely athletic setter with size. Definitely a huge reason Mt Vernon had the season they did

7. Alec Bowles - Moeller is so well rounded it's hard to pick which hitter so recognize. Bowles was huge at the net vs Mt Vernon with many key blocks and kills

8. Andrew Beckman (sp?) - The sophomore outside from Ignatius has a very bright future. Tough choice to have him above Catanzaro, but while I was watching Beckman had more impressive kills against Moeller.

9. Ethan Hubbard - Lakota East outside that nearly brought them to a 5 set win over 3rd ranked in the state Mt Vernon. He and the Kuhlman brothers nearly carried Lakota East through

10. Cameron Ternent - Tough matchup for the Jackson outside going up against the hottest team in the state in the quarters. St X was keying on him big time and needed a bit more help from the supporting cast

Mauch should have been Ohio POY
over Platfoot !! To bad those awards are
given out before the end of tournament.
FYI Darby had state championships tee shirts
made and with them before tournament ended.
Just a little bit cocky !!

I disagree with the first and second statements here. If true and Darby had shirts made then good ol karma came back and bit them in the rear.

As a Darby dad, I’m not aware of T shirts made in advance. As in the past, T’s were made as a state contender and worn for warm ups etc.

Yeah, just based on past posts, it isn't worth paying attention to Volzfan.
