Ok Mudcat - - lets throw out some numbers.
Ashley Hall was 19-1.
A 9 inning shutout against Jackson.
A no hitter against Garfield.
A one hitter against Glen Oak.
A two hitter against Massillon.
A nine inning shutout against Jackson.
9 shutouts.
1-1 record against Perry.
Cassie Rohr may be as good - but hard to be better than those numbers...
How she wasn't first team is beyond belief.
lol are you serious you have a few standouts in the smaller divisions but the depth is not even close, maybe in bowling but that is it
Good Lord people... just agree to disagree. CC, we get it, Hoover is the best no one else should get considered if Hoover has a top-notch player, yada yada yada. Woolfman, we get you as well.... you think the schedule/division argument is a moot point. Sheesh lol
CC,
This is exactly what I'm talking about. I haven't said a single negative word about Marcantonio. She's a great player and a great kid. Neither of these kids needs two people who just won't let a disagreement be a disagreement dragging on about either of them. Why not co-mvp's? That'd be the easy answer and would recognize the wonderful season BOTH had.
McGal,
74leps,
Howard was Mr. Football this past season and both Massillon and McKinley went farther in the playoffs then Hoover did.
These so called awards are all bogus. It's all in who knows who and who gets the loyalty votes. For example, in the PAC, Fairless' pitcher Brittany Larch went 10-0 with something like a .56 ERA and batted over 500 against the league. Her team went 13-1 in the league losing thier last game of league play pitching a freshman due to Larch throwing something like 320 pitches the previous two nights at districts. One would think she would get MVP of the league, right? No, this award was given to the young lady from Tuslaw that got hurt midway through the year. Now nothing against this young lady and congrats to her, but how can you put up the numbers like Larch and get snubbed.
Now for Stark County Player of the Year I would like to throw Larch's name in there. She went toe to toe with some of the counties big names(Hoover, Perry, Jackson, Glenoak), yet her name is not mentioned anywhere in this thread. Her only bad game against the big schools was early in the year at Hoover. The other three games were all one run games usually decided because of a fielding error behind her somewhere. Oh, and she also pitched her team to the regional final game in DII at akron.
Coaching against both these young ladies (Rohr and Marcantonio) I can honestly say either one of them could deserve it. And I'm sure both of these ladies have so much class that they wouldn't mind if each other got the award.
Here is a question that may help anwser it...
If you were building a team, who is your first pick Rohr or Marcantonio?
Also, it would be alot of fun to have an all-league team play against other all leagues...can you imagine an all-fed all-star team. Wow.

In my opinion, it's a no brainer. Macantonio all the way. She is probably the best player in the state.
Looking at the All-Ohio awards, I don't see her name listed as the player of the year for DI.
when does the Gatorade POY get announced?
