Stark County Player of the Year

There were two- Rohr and DiDomenico. I know Hoover beat Boardman twice but DiDomenico only pitched the second game and Hoover won 1-0. All three seem like they have a case but it looks to me like it should have been Rohr and Hall.

Ok Mudcat - - lets throw out some numbers.

Ashley Hall was 19-1.
A 9 inning shutout against Jackson.
A no hitter against Garfield.
A one hitter against Glen Oak.
A two hitter against Massillon.
A nine inning shutout against Jackson.
9 shutouts.
1-1 record against Perry.

Cassie Rohr may be as good - but hard to be better than those numbers...
How she wasn't first team is beyond belief.

My point was not that Rohr is more deserving than Hall. My point was that Rohr deserves as much run as any other pitcher in the FL and I did not see anyone bringing her name up.... so I did.

Even though she got most of the wins for Hoover this year, apparently splitting time with Russo hurt Hall's chances. Also Dido is the "big name" recruit (OSU I hear) and unfortunately I believe that was more of a factor than her on field performance this year if she indeed got the nod over Hall.

If so, that is unfortunate. Hall had another great year.

All said and done, I am curious to know how many games Dido actually pitched this year.

You are correct Mudcat, and I am not arguing against Rohr. I am also curious how many games DiDomenico pitched.

I think its also important to note that on games Ashley didn't pitch, she still hit and often played the field. She is more that just a great pitcher, she can hit as well - not saying Rohr or DiDomenico can't - I have no idea.

Dido definitely hits... don't think Rohr does (??) .... either way, Didomenico's rankings in all-league teams in previous season(s) was definitely a part of the vote. Is it right? That's a matter for debate, but it is the 'norm' in all-league voting in all sports... kids who made it b4 make it again for the most part.

ok, back to topic. STARK COUNTY. Boardman is in Mahoning county.

Bittenger now has 50 RBI's on the season. 17 more than the next closest according to the Repository. Also has 363 strikeouts and is close to Katie Chain's record for a single season...

not to compare apples and oranges. but last year someone from Louisville wass football stark county player of the year and the kid from Hoover was OHIO player of the year.

don't count out the East Canton girl. If they win the state Championship, it's going to be hard not to vote for her.

it comes down to batting avg. per position for all awards period marcantonio is the best offensive ball player

you could be lights out the best shorttop in state, but 3 have better batting avg., you lose out in the awards, recruiters look at the whole package offense defense grades .....quote from college recruiter

Bittinger finished the season with 375 strikeouts. a new stark county record.....

and 14 hr's. the repository claimed that is a single season STATE record. all divisions.

don't rule her out for player of the year.

Bittinger a junior, is outstanding in her own right...no doubt.

I still have to heavily weigh the level of competition Marcantonio had all season long in comparison to Bittinger.

With Marcantonio a senior, leading the county in alot of the categories and the D1 competition, she is your 2010 Stark County Player of the Year.

Bittinger will have next season to again standout and if she duplicates her success this past season, would be a leading contender.

Good Lord people... just agree to disagree. CC, we get it, Hoover is the best no one else should get considered if Hoover has a top-notch player, yada yada yada. Woolfman, we get you as well.... you think the schedule/division argument is a moot point. Sheesh lol

Seems like football awards mostly go to players on teams that make it the farthest in the playoffs - not the same with fastpitch?

Bittinger deserves it, so does Marcantonio - and by the way, I'm not from NC or EC; just don't think Marcantonio is any slam dunk at all with the stats Bittinger put up.

McGal,

I usually agree with most of your posts but Marcantonio's leadership, stats and results are loud and clear.

Yes, Bittinger should be considered, she is outstanding as well.

Hoover with the run they have had over the last couple of years has had the top player with Simpson, etc.

They both represent their teams and stark county well!

74leps,

Howard was Mr. Football this past season and both Massillon and McKinley went farther in the playoffs then Hoover did.

CC,

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I haven't said a single negative word about Marcantonio. She's a great player and a great kid. Neither of these kids needs two people who just won't let a disagreement be a disagreement dragging on about either of them. Why not co-mvp's? That'd be the easy answer and would recognize the wonderful season BOTH had.

Rohr from Perry should be in the mix. She lead Perry to the D1 Team title over the #1 ranked team with an individual record of 24-2.

sorry, but I am seeing more than TWO people on here just discussing. mje037, Hoovers1, ccrunner, 74leps and me. that is FIVE at a minimum. I was only giving up to date stats game by game. Kind of like the Perry thread when someone was giving inning by inning. some person over and over again.

i didn't see anyone taking an objection to that.

and who said that anyone wouldn't let a disagreement be a disagreement? no one has called anyone out. And I never said Alex didn't derserve it and shouldn't get it.

I like the last one in the discussion (not disagreement) mentioning Rohr. She deserves a mention also.

McGal,

Point taken, BUT - us Louisville folks weren't impressed by Mr. Football, at least when he played vs the Leopards. It was the Bobby Swigert and Leopard D show last year at the Leopard dome.

I guess I was referring more to those selected 1st Team All Ohio, which isn't a correct analogy.

woolf,

That response was to his last post and was only directed at cc, not you. My original post was simply that you guys were arguing the same points back and forth when the reality is there are multiple kids who all would have strong cases for the honor. Not winning it doesn't take anything away from the amazing season all these kids had.

These so called awards are all bogus. It's all in who knows who and who gets the loyalty votes. For example, in the PAC, Fairless' pitcher Brittany Larch went 10-0 with something like a .56 ERA and batted over 500 against the league. Her team went 13-1 in the league losing thier last game of league play pitching a freshman due to Larch throwing something like 320 pitches the previous two nights at districts. One would think she would get MVP of the league, right? No, this award was given to the young lady from Tuslaw that got hurt midway through the year. Now nothing against this young lady and congrats to her, but how can you put up the numbers like Larch and get snubbed.

Now for Stark County Player of the Year I would like to throw Larch's name in there. She went toe to toe with some of the counties big names(Hoover, Perry, Jackson, Glenoak), yet her name is not mentioned anywhere in this thread. Her only bad game against the big schools was early in the year at Hoover. The other three games were all one run games usually decided because of a fielding error behind her somewhere. Oh, and she also pitched her team to the regional final game in DII at akron.

What stats are you looking at?? Larch did not hit 500, actually she just started hitting in the post season. Now pitching yes she is pretty good, but she had good defense behind her.

With Marcantonio the only stark county player to the 1st team All-Ohio D1 selection, she is your Stark County Player of the year.

Coaching against both these young ladies (Rohr and Marcantonio) I can honestly say either one of them could deserve it. And I'm sure both of these ladies have so much class that they wouldn't mind if each other got the award.

Here is a question that may help anwser it...

If you were building a team, who is your first pick Rohr or Marcantonio?

Also, it would be alot of fun to have an all-league team play against other all leagues...can you imagine an all-fed all-star team. Wow.

While Rohr is a great player...she was chosen 2nd team All-Ohio compared to Marcantonio's 1st team.

That alone answers any questions anyone should have regarding Stark County Player of the Year.

Rohr will have another chance next season, and I will be rooting for her.

In my opinion, it's a no brainer. Macantonio all the way. She is probably the best player in the state.

Looking at the All-Ohio awards, I don't see her name listed as the player of the year for DI.

when does the Gatorade POY get announced?
