Bittinger is good and good pitching is good pitching...but....D4 is still d4. I'd liek to see her shut down Perry, Boardman, Hoover, Jackson all twice each over the season.
mje, while I agree that there is a difference, I don't think that it's as big as you think. Just as an example, Poland's pitcher (d-3) has in fact shut down some very good bigger division teams, Greenville played with D-1 programs, etc.
This reminds me of a similar situation.
Mount Union is a perennial national champion in NCAA D3 Football.
Their best players are outstanding, but do not compete against the day in and day out competition a D1 player does for the player of the year in D1 "The Heisman Trophy".
If there was a Stark county player of the year for each division, then Bittinger is in hands down.
If there is only one for all divisions, then Marcantonio is the winnwho would you rather have Brian Robiskie or Pierre Carson? Let me ask you,Who would you rather have Brian Robiske(OSU) or Pierre Carson(Mount Union)?
Who exactly gives out this "award" anyways?
I don't seem to recall it in years past...
As MC said, all the mentioned girls are wonderful players and would be very deserving of any award.
I wonder if mje and ccrunner would be arguing so vehemently for Alex if she played for, hmmm, let's say Jackson?![]()
Alright MJE, testing your bias here... who was clearly the best player in the county last year?
Apples to oranges CC... the difference between D-I and D-III in college athletics is HUGE. The difference between D-I and D-III in high school softball while it exists is small at best. The players can't control who they play/what division their school is. The award should go to the kid who had the biggest impact on their team's season. Any of the kids mentioned would have been a great choice.
by the way any thoughts of any of the panthers who by the way are representing stark county pretty well right now
Let's just make it easier in the future
(Just to make mje and ccrunner happy)
*Only Hoover players can be considered for any award.
*The entire All Federal League team must be made up of Hoover players.
*No one can even consider that any other player from any other team, be it DI, DII, DIII, or DIV, could be as deserving as Hoover players.
*Anyone who disagrees with mje or ccrunner will be tarred and feathered since they are obviously right.
That should about cover it

Ok Mudcat - - lets throw out some numbers.
Ashley Hall was 19-1.
A 9 inning shutout against Jackson.
A no hitter against Garfield.
A one hitter against Glen Oak.
A two hitter against Massillon.
A nine inning shutout against Jackson.
9 shutouts.
1-1 record against Perry.
Cassie Rohr may be as good - but hard to be better than those numbers...
How she wasn't first team is beyond belief.
