ReLoad, Please send observations and comments from today's scrimmage (hopefully you were there?). I'm curious how Centerville looked too.
It went the way I expected.....really didn't learn anything new
X scored 3 times (Betts twice and Taylor once) and Centerville scored once (40 yard pass play toward the end of the scrimmage - corner got beat and safety was late with coverage)

Offense:
QB: Herbie will be QB most of the time and Vollmer some of the time
RB: X used 3 RBs - Napier, Patrick and Britt and Ty Stegauer leading blocker on occasion
Receivers: McClatchey was out, Betts caught 7 passes, Taylor and Klare each caught 3
Line played well, left to right: TKattus-Kautzman-Jennings-JKattus-Hester

Defense: leading tacklers were Beck and Sulfsted
Front 6 looked good: Down: Brice-Hammond-Sulfsted and Up: Folke-Beck-Clapper
The corners are set with Strayhorn and Reilly
Weber is at adjuster and Bishop is at strong safety.
Free safety is up in the air with O'Malley, Reeder and Hall battling
Cengia was solid hitting all FG attempts inside of 35 yards

Anybody other observations?

Scrimmage #2 at the Cage on Friday night.

ReLoad, What is the competitive balance looking like in the GCL South and Cincinnati-area public high schools? Mason, Princeton, LW, even Colerain though they've been down the last few years. The upcoming scrimmage this weekend will tell more.
State-wide, is it likely another title year for St. Ed ? It'll be interesting to follow St. Ignatius with the new coach and Chuck Kyle not there for the first time in what, 40+ years.

StX 34 Colerain 7

The 1st team defense was stifling holding the Cardinals to just 3 first downs led by Beck with 5 tackles
Reeder scored a TD on a 30 yard fumble recovery in the 3rd quarter
The Cards score was on a 92 yard interception return in the 2nd quarter

Bomber Rushing

Maxim 1 XP, 1 punt for 40 yds

Next Up: Lakota West Friday August 18th 7pm Ballaban Field

Napier's stats above look good. About 90 yards of total offense. What is height/weight this year ?
Not sure, waiting for roster to post.
Last year he was listed 5'10" 190lb.
Looks like he might be a little lighter this year.

This year's offensive playmakers look to be Napier, McClatchey, Herbstreit, Vollmer and possibly Betts
During 7 on 7's Sulfsted played a lot of TE and looked to be a big time playmaker but in the 2 scrimmages he was not on offense.
Complementary offensive players look to be Patrick, Britt, Taylor, Shamsi and Klare.

Defensively the playmakers look to be Beck, Sulfsted, Folke and Weber.
O'Malley is really starting to settle in at his new position.....he is quick to the ball and has a nose for it.
His older brother TJ was 2 year varsity LB (2018-19) and then played at Dayton

The roster is available now.
Roster observations

Senior Captains: Folke, Hammond, Weber, Jennings, Beck and Napier

Coaching Staff: Former Colerain Cardinal and UC Bearcat Ja'von Hicks is on staff now as a DB coach

The starting OLine from left to right is 290-267-270-220-235 for an average of 256lb
As you can see the left side is significantly bigger than the right side.

Vollmer, as a sophomore, is listed at 6'2" 205lb
Last season as a freshman he was 6'1" 170lb

8 sophomores on varsity roster

What will be the QB rotation? Strengths/weaknesses of both? Against West, which everyone seems to think is low-scoring game, who fits it best?

Entering this season I count @26 almost certain varsity starters (includes the 2 kickers)

By class
Seniors (14): Beck, Cengia, Folke, Goshorn, Hall, Hammond, Jennings, JKattus, Klare, McClatchey, Napier, O'Malley, Patrick and Weber
Juniors (6): Fleetwood, Herbstreit, TKattus, Strayhorn, Sulfsted and JaWassler
Sophomores (6): Clapper, GHester, Reeder, Reilly, Taylor and DVollmer
This post from February was about 85% accurate.

4 Key position moves: O'Malley from QB to FS, Bennett from CB to WR, Reilly from RB/WR to CB, Justin Kattus from DE to RG,

I should add the Stegbauer brothers.
Tyler #45, plays often as the lead fullback on power plays, as does AJ Golden #40
Spencer #26, got 6 carries in the opener but with the emergence of Britt, has been mostly JV the past 2 weeks

Kudos to a kid like O'Malley. He went from starting QB to being replaced by Herbstreit and then not playing much for the balance of last year. It had to be disappointing. But, he stuck with it and now is a starter in the defensive backfield. Good life lesson, hang in and don't quit.
