St. Edward 2024-25

157 an overall "weaker" weight???? Borofan has it
1. Jared Goldberg (St. Edward) Senior
2. Zachary Aquila (Brecksville) Sophomore
3. Eli Esguerra (Dublin Coffman) Sophomore
4. Brennan Warwick (Massillon Perry) Junior
not necessarily weak in most wrestlers eyes, also notices Driscoll is number 5 in sophomore class and Boro doesn't have him in line up , one would assume he will crack it
This weight class is definitely not weak, rather there is a chance each of the Top 4 could win a state title.

It is weak. The fact that these 4 guys can win just means there are no hammers in the weight class. I mean none of these guys have even sniffed the national rankings….

Zack Aquila is currently ranked in the country... On top of the fact the other three have all beat ranked kids in the country over the off-season.

In fact, Goldberg is the only one in that group of four who did not make an impact on the national scene this spring/summer, yet still ranked #1.

157 may be the most open weight class.

If you go by top 5, I don’t think this group would rank above any other D1 weights. Definitely lacks that hammer most other weights have.

Goldberg wrestled just as well as the rest throughout the summer; he just didn't get to wrestle 16U. I'm fairly certain they all know the pecking order is correct.

Ok, I got you. I'm old enough to remember when reaching the podium at Fargo & the US Open mattered more than the "pecking order".

I'm not saying it doesn't matter, I would never take that away from a kid, it is a great accomplishment. but there are no age classes in the state season and I think Boro has it right.

You could be right, JG is tough as nails and certainly could be on top of the podium come March. Just seems odd to me that he's ranked above 3 kids with better national and HS state level resumes. I get it .... Green/Gold...

I'd say it is one of the most open weight classes in D1, but I'd give it to 132 and 165. Both of these weight classes have zero kids who have made an impact on the national scene. 150 is also looking pretty weak this year for D1.

I see your point with both. I think Johnson Russo and Peterson/Eaton is a formidable top 3, but also very open.

yes, while this weight may be "wide open" I strongly believe Warwick will be the one to beat this year. Placed at Fargo (7th), Has a win over Aquila in their only meeting (folkstyle), and while he may have not gotten the result he probably wanted or what most of us expected at state, he said to of had a pretty bad injury while he was wrestling. While I do believe that Goldberg has what it takes, I just can't seem to predict a kid that has never made state and didn't even has a varsity spot last year to win the state title. Eli is a sneaky pick here too with a really good performance at Fargo, however I believe aquilla would defeat him again in a rematch of folkstyle simply on the way their styles match. While this may not be the best weight with depth, I certainly believe it will be the most interesting In the top 4-5.

This may be true, but I believe right now the one to beat is Aquila, who has been continuously consistent all year. On top of that, Aquila beat Warwick twice this off season, 3-2 and 2-1. Aquila has shown he’s just a little bit better than Warwick and Esguerra, as for Goldberg, I’d say Aquila has passed him up as well.

I think this year is the only chance for a team(Mass Perry) to beat Ed’s within the next five to ten years.

This year? Ummm no.
MP will be very good. I always like when Eds faces a threat. I remember the year we lost to Wadsworth at State. I was so bummed but I also remember going into that next season more excited than year's recent as we were on a "comeback" of sorts. Bring on Mass Perry!

I will take Huhn from Lasalle, I think he is going to go 157.
I agree I would put Acquila 1 Goldberg 2 right now.

If Huhn moves up he goes to #1 just based on past performance. This would also make 150# the weakest weight, IMO. Would be wise for Murphy and/or Sanderfer to bump up. I think Murphy will eventually.

The only way eds doesn't get another banner will be if they have multiple injuries. They have the potential for multiple state champions. Every weight should place high except for maybe one weight

106,165,138 are all very weak spots. Go through the lineups, I have Massillon Perry right now.

Well Boro has Schork at 106, if that’s the case, that will be far from a weak spot. And he has Peterson/Eaton at 165, either of those would be really good there too obviously. Guess we’ll just have to see how the lineup actually works out. But personally I’d be stunned if MP came even relatively close to St Ed’s this year.

165...Eaton is a weak spot? He's capable of winning it all.
138....there's at least a state qualifier or a potential state champ there..how is that a weak weight?
106....you have Schork. That's weak?
