St. Edward 2008-09

wow. St John's beat US in the finals of the Titan Tournament. I'm very surprised. I guess that's why they play the games.

I still think US is the favorite to win State.

EF,
Is there an outside site that keeps the league standings and schedules. I thought there was one last year, I thought that was really helpful.

Not that I think you are doing a bad job with updates, nor with failing to edit your posts instead of reposting.

St. Edward routs  St. Ignatius 11-1 last night. St. Edward has not lost to an Ohio school since 12/13 (Ignatius). Their only other loss to an Ohio school was 12/5 to University School, who they play this afternoon out east. Could that be a preview of the Baron Cup final and state semi-final? We may see if US is the clear favorite starting today.

Overall, St. Edward is 21-4-5, unbeaten in their last 17 games (5 ties)

Great atmosphere

It certainly was a great night for the St. Eds fans. St. Eds players really wanted to prove something last night and they did. Good luck today against US.

I think both St. Eds and St. Iggy fans are both in a state of shock with the Eagles dominating, mercy rule, win over the Iggy...11-1. It will be interesting to see how the Eagles play against University school today. The Eagles 4th game this week.

University School beat St. Edward 4-3 yesterday. I think US has established themselves as the team to beat. Hopefully there will be a rematch in the Baron Cup.

Agreed! Hopefully there will be a rematch in the state semi-finals also.

Just when I was going to write-off the Wildcats. ;)

It certainly looks likely that US will win one District, and Eds or Iggy the other. Any other school have a shot?

Lake Catholic defeats Ignatius 3-2. Go Ignatius goes 1-4 over their last 5 games, shutting out the favorites to win state...go figure.

Looks like the Eagles are once again playing their best hockey in the last half of the season.

Anyone else attend the Padua game last night? I've never seen so many penalties in one game (by two teams). Very disappointed in the level of play the first two periods when it was obvious that St. Edward had a serious physical and skill advantage over Padua.

Baron Cup I Bracket is out.

1. University School
8. North Olmsted

4. St. Ignatius
5. Walsh Jesuit

2. St. Edward
7. Strongsville

3. Lake Catholic
6. Hudson

I like the draw, it should give St. Edward a spot in the title game vs the Ignatius/US winner.

I completely forgot Strongsville knocked us out of the playoffs in 2007. The Eagles cannot afford to look past Strongsville like I did...

That's true, while it's good for the sport in Ohio to have huge upsets like the past 2 years (Strongsville over Ed's in '07 and Mentor over US last year) I hope the Eagles learned their lesson. Hopefully it's Iggy's turn this year.

So much for no upsets in the Baron Cup this year, Strongsville shocks the Cleveland hockey world again.

At least it was the Baron Cup and not the sectionals, but you have to wonder what the kids were thinging...especially after two years ago.

Implied in your remarks is that the Eagles screwed up. Based on Strongsville's season so far (wins over LC and US, for instance), don't they possibly deserve some credit? Didn't see the game...lopsided shots on goal advantage for the Eagles?

In any event, very strange hockey season and it appears the Mustangs belong in the North.

Strongsville is building a nice program. I give them credit. We may be seeing them again in the District Finals...if they get by Ignatius...and we get by Padua and Trinity

I would agree, Strongsville built iceland usa a few years ago and hockey has been growing there ever since. They should be a program to contend with in the coming years.

The Eagles did screw up, they didn't play three periods of hard hockey and therefore let the Mustangs keep the game close. The lesson they should have learned a couple years ago is to take Strongsville serious every time the Mustangs step out on the ice, they have a good program.

I updated the schedule at the start of this thread. St Edward heads into the playoffs with a 23-6-5 record.

I've never heard of you guys. Do you guys do the state tournament too? (I'm not trying to trash talk. I'm trying to understand because I'm curious)
