SLC's Receiver Blake Cantu

Perhaps we should talk about the recent National Cross Country Championships. They didn't award a boys team title, but if they had, guess who would have won?

Let Me Take A Stab

I dont know but I am gonna take a stab at it. Is it Abilene?

Enjoy.

And SLCDad, thanks for bringing it up.

It's always nice to have someone recognize National Champions from suburban Chicago.

They're no Elmhurst York (not yet, anyway), but they're getting there.

At this particular national meet SLC had two runners in the Top 5 in the Nation. Thanks for the link.

Many of the top national individual runners didn't participate in this event. I didn't see anyone from DLS? Did they participate?

Let me get this straight:

Team results are meaningless, because some runners didn't go (and that is Neuqua Valley's problem, somehow).

On the other hand, SLC had two of the top five runners in the nation (in this particular meet, as you say).

This will be awesome next year. Orlando Boone will beat Apopka or something like that, and we'll say "Orlando Boone was the top team in the nation, in this particular game."

You implied that if there were a national team title for boys' cross country, SLC would have won it. There was one. SLC didn't win it.

I strongly suggest following the instructions on the labels. Whatever cocktail of pills you are popping every day can't be what the doctors intended.

A Few Things

After being supplied with some FACTS, it looks like Naperville won it.

As a sidenote, Todd Dodge just fired his defensive coordinator, a guy he brought from SLC. This guy probably regrets going with Dodge. UNT had the WORST D-1 defense in the country. This pretty much goes hand in hand on what we have been saying about Texas HS football. All "O" but the "D" is lacking. After watching Riley Dodge against bigtime talent, a few things may happen,
1 - He will get hurt and relegated to carrying pos clipboard around. Somehow someone will spin it in to, "What heart this kid has not to quit" blah blah blah
2 - He will not get exposed but will not be able to adjust to the speed of the game (MNW shut him out in the 2nd half)

Or perhaps TD regrets bringin him to UNT.

You forgot 3-RD is a very succesful and wins honors in the Sunbelt. Amny people had the same things to say about Chase Daniel. Of course you hate him as well, so....

Uh Oh!!

Now did you really know if they won or was you taking the word of a guy from Nebraska that you had dinner with. I am reading irrefutable (sp) evidence that once again you skewed the facts. But as a consolation prize, SLC is only 1 of 3 schools in the US to perform "Phantom of the Opera" Well maybe not, I am gonna have to now go check this one out. Where is Consumerman when we need him.

Clearly you read and post with a bias. Check the original post....

I didn't attend the SLC vs. Abilene game because this coming weekend SLC will be performing Phantom of the Opera for their high school musical. SLC is the first high school in the world and the first school of any kind to perform this production. The owners of Phantom are working with SLC to develop a school production version of Phantom. Producers and directors from all over the country (and the world) will be in Southlake this week to see and evaluate SLC's production. They have been working with SLC for months on the production already to fine tune the "school" production version of the show. Later in December two colleges will also perform Phantom and then next year three selected high schools will do it.

Please note, the bold was SLCDad's, the italicized part was mine.

Go ahead, hate away...

I don't think Woody is out of line implying it's a good idea (for accuracy, anyway) to check everything SLCDad presents as fact.

Woody, sorry to say this, but you are an sweetie.

Chicago posted a link to the Nike meet results.

My comment was regarding the Footlocker meet results.

Since you brought up Phanton, SLC was the first school of any kind to perform Phantom of the Opera. Three more high schools and two colleges will do it (or have done it) this school year but all were after SLC's performance. That's EXACTLY what I posted originally.

My post regarding the national cross country meet was accurate. You posted the results of a different meet.

It's a bit of a stretch to say that if the meet that didn't have a team championship had had a team championship, SLC would have won, even though at the meet that did have a team championship, SLC came in 15th.

But I'm glad to see you said it anyway.

Four regions each qualified 10 runners.

So only 40 runners from the entire country competed (on the boys' side).

That's great for figuring out who the best runners in the country are.

NO ONE scores team cross country that way.

For team against team, with five athletes per team, Neuqua Valley is the National Champion, and SLC is 15th. When your 3rd kid comes in 106th, it can be tough. And one reason a lot of top runners weren't there is because their teams did not qualify. Funny how that works. However, the kid from Naperville was there to beat the kid from SLC just like at the Footlocker individual championships.

In other news, Florida is the college football National Champion. The top ten for the Heisman came from 10 different schools, and Tebow, from Florida finished first, so if the Downtown Athletic Club had awarded a team trophy it would have gone to Florida.

By the way, I have no idea why OSU and LSU are playing tonight.

Yes exactly. That is why Footlocker didn't award a team title. Who said they did? The Footlocker meet includes more of the elite runners than any meet in the country.

If you take the Top 10 runners from each region making 40 for the entire country then SLC ranked #1. That's what I was referring to.

SLC's top two runners are better than the top 2 runners from any other school in the country. If the schools were ranked in the Footlocker elite meet SLC wins.

By the way, the SLC boys team didn't even win Texas. They got 2nd. The SLC girls team won the state title.

Which means nothing.

You're essentially saying that they didn't award a team title, because it would have made no sense, but if they had awarded a nonsensical team title anyway, SLC would have won it.

Alllllllllllrighty then.

Among elite runners, SLC didn't very, very well. In fact, better than anybody else. It is not nonsensical because the meet included more of the elite runners than any other meet. Think of it as the olympics of US high school cross country. The Nike team meet excluded many top runners.

Go back and read post #2 of this thread. I posted: "They didn't award a boys team title, but if they had, guess who would have won?"

They didn't award a team title because it would have been stupid.

However, if they had been stupid, SLC would have been at the top of their list.

Well I guess that woud depend on how they set up the rules. Since it was not set up or scored as a traditional CC race, they would have had to set them up.

Why weren't they?

I am sure the Texas 5A playoffs excluded many top players.

That doesn't make Trinity and Katy any less deserving of their team titles.

Back to the point, did anyone watch Cantu?

I watched the Offense-Defense game at the Orange Bowl. Apparently it was against the law for anyone to attend the game.

I think there may have been less than 200 people in attendance.

Hank Aaron and Tommie Aaron are the greatest Home Run hitting brothers in history, better than any other 2 brothers

Tommie Aaron probably hit worse than Ken Brett, a pitcher, who was George Brett's brother

2 runners does not rank you or win you a #1 in a team event
