Darby beat Elder 3-1 at Darby today.

Not sure of scores of first two games. Elder took game 3 after nice comeback after being down 19-13 to win 25-22.

Darby won handily in game 4 25-16 or 25 -17 (can't remember exact score).

Darby has to be the clear favorite right now for D1. They haven't lost a match in Ohio and have only dropped several sets. Little disappointed in the showing from Elder, expected the games to be much closer especially after the big X win on Friday.

I agree Darby is the favorite, but Moeller had Darby down 2 sets to 0 in the Centerville Elite before Darby fought back to win in 5 and they also took the first set against Darby at Moeller.

So, Moeller is right there on Darby's heels and clearly has the ability to win it all at the state tournament.

Elder is still firmly entrenched as the #3 team in the state IMO.

With all that being said, Darby deserves and should clearly have the #1 ranking in the state at this stage of the season. They now have plenty of wins against the top 10 to deserve it (Moeller twice, Elder, Pick North, Desales, St. Ignatius).

Nailed it. Panthers throttle X in the Pit 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 25-15. Credit X for coming back and battling in Game 3, Elder started to let the foot off the gas and got a little complacent. Game 4 was tied at 11 and Elder turned on the gas getting up to a 19-13 and 22-14 after that.

As a casual observer of this match - both teams were VERY sloppy and the match was not great to watch from a general volleyball perspective.

Both teams had iffy ball handling from the setters. Both teams missed quite a few serves. St. X shockingly watched probably 7ish balls just hit the floor with two guys looking at each other or two guys run into each other. Neither team ever really had an offense going (partly due to a lot of missed serves). Bretl (who some were saying was a POY candidate) was a non-factor. Bad technique was common on jump serves, passing form, etc. I know it is high school - but to me it seems the level of technique has gone down recently. Elder's gargantuan outside routinely hit's the ball at 8.5' when I'm sure he could be hitting the ball at least a foot higher (and over the block in many cases). I guess I just expected better volleyball from two powerhouse programs.

For me, it was just sad to see that the two of the better teams in the state were playing such disorganized volleyball - especially this late in the season (would be forgivable early in the season).

That being said, the JV match was fun to watch - Elder was the first to 20 in both games, but St. X came back to win both times.

It was mostly known that this year that most of the teams were down in terms of talent level. Besides Moeller, Darby, and Centerville a lot of the top teams graduated VERY strong senior classes last year. What will be interesting is that the South #1 (Likely Moeller) plays the East #1 (Darby) in the state semis. Could mean that a team like Elder, X, Centerville, or Ignatius sneaks into the finals this year and all it takes is 1 down match from the top dog
