That's a state requirement. You know the state can't let an opportunity slip by without making a buck.Pretty sure my school only ever charged for playoff games.
Yeah, love the walk back to LaSalle's field dodging lacrosse balls and when you finally get to the back, they kick you in the n"ts and charge you for said walk. lolI believe all of the GCL South schools charge for home games.
And they have an easy set up to charge at their venue. Not every school is set up for that.Defiance just started doing it this season. It might've even been announced after the season began. They cited the rising cost of umpires.
This. It's virtually impossible at most high school baseball fields, in my experience. And they have an easy set up to charge at their venue. Not every school is set up for that.
True, however, for the schools that can do it, they don't because it requires effort.This. It's virtually impossible at most high school baseball fields, in my experience.
1000%. My school has this problem.This. It's virtually impossible at most high school baseball fields, in my experience.
Until they redid fencing in the athletic complex at my school, it was easy to bypass any efforts to charge admission by just going in a different way. There are still ways to do it but they now involve either walking through a farmers field or trespassing on someone's backyard1000%. My school has this problem.
We only charge at tournament games that we host because we have to. Otherwise, the physical layout of our school grounds doesn't make it practical.
Track and field too mostly. Is baseball/softball the only varsity sports that don't typically charge a gate fee in Ohio high school sports?
you have to dedicate a resource (or two) to getting the admissions for probably under 50 people.True, however, for the schools that can do it, they don't because it requires effort.
For many schools, it's not worth it to them.
I feel like every HS track meet I ever went to charged.Track and field too mostly.
Add Cross Country to the list for most schools.Track and field too mostly.
Depending on the layout of the course, it would be hard to charge for cross country meets.Add Cross Country to the list for most schools.
Did you go to invites? They charge but for tri’s and quad meets I’ve never been charged.I feel like every HS track meet I ever went to charged.
Its been a while since I went to one at all but I'm pretty sure they were charging for both invites and tri's/quads.Did you go to invites? They charge but for tri’s and quad meets I’ve never been charged.
Our conference charges for track in this manner and for the same reason. And a few years ago, we started having combined MS/HS league meets. Our school (and most, I would think) charge for track because, being in a stadium, there is a designated entrance gate and therefore a suitable place to take tickets. Unlike most baseball and softball fields.
Many/most of those parents will drop more in a weekend at travel ball what they would in a season of high school baseball....My school installed a gravel lot behind the RF/CF fence, so a lot of parents just back their vehicles up and watch there. Since this is "outside" the "stadium" its a free way to watch games even when there is admission.
Considering the only games that are charged for are usually postseason games and I don't think we have ever hosted more than 2 in any given season... I'm not sure I agree about embarrassment. I do agree with your overall point though that parents spend way more for one weekend travel ball tourney than they do in an entire season of HS baseball.Many/most of those parents will drop more in a weekend at travel ball what they would in a season of high school baseball....
They should be embarrassed at this.
