Tough job no matter who is hired. From the issues with the BOE to the lack of horses put on the field….just a tough job!!!!

I hope whoever they hire can bring an entire staff with them. Going to be near impossible to find assistants unless the board allows them to hire the two guys they non renewed................

They have had the weight room open for players. Coach Olds has continued to leave it open for the kids, even though he’s resigned. I haven’t heard of an official headcount yet though. I am going to guess it’s not very many… last year they had 27 I think? I will be shocked if they get more than that this year.

I’m hearing a Doug Miller has been hired as head coach. I haven’t seen much about him, but I wonder if it is the same guy who coached at Adena for 1 yea back in 2023.

I think so, if it is him I think he coached at Akron North recently as well

Not sure about this hire. EC should want stability at the position. This guy seems like he stays for 1-2 seasons at places and dips.

Not sure when it will be announced, but EC is still interviewing for Coordinators.
Nothing like taking your sweet ole time during a time crunch… smh
Probably not a lot of people coming out of the woods for these positions. Hope they find what they are looking for- tough job ahead.

Boy is this an ugly situation over in Lees Creek….
With how small the community is over there between New Vienna, Sabina and the rest of the district I’m not surprised they are having trouble filling these positions. Everyone loved the previous two coordinators and they got non-renewed in May… they did them dirty. I’m not surprised Coach Olds left at all. Him and his staff deserve much better. I hope for the kids sake EC gets some quality coordinators, but I’m not holding my breath. Seems like they had a great staff already… this article says Olds went 20-39 as head coach, which isn’t good on paper, but considering how little talent EC has had, I feel like that’s actually quite impressive… the school board really crapped the bed with this one!

I think they have a whole staff now. Still no MS coaches. I was told that the last MS coach they had joined the hs staff at Hillsboro. They better find some quick or they might not be able to have a MS team

Looks to be okay. May even have better numbers than last season at the Varsity level. Low to Mid 30s is what it looks like

That’s awesome! I know last season they didn’t have some JV games. Looks like this year they should be able to have a full JV schedule.

That’s a different Doug Miller. Google Images’ return on “Doug Miller Akron North” shows a guy who is at least 20 years younger and about 10” taller than the Doug who was at Adena.
The Doug Miller being referenced as having a cup of coffee at Adena is this guy. Previous stints as a HC were at Fisher Cath (2017-2019) and Richmond Heights in the early 10’s. His day job is in sales IIRC, which explains how he has the flexibility to apply pretty much anywhere.
If you get lucky, you’ll see his buddy chime in for him on here at some point.

Looking at his Fisher Catholic years, he had a nice couple of seasons in 2018 and 2019. I was a bit harsh on the hire, but this might be a pretty decent hire for East Clinton. He seems to have some nice experience. I still don’t agree with what their BOE did to their assistant coaches and former HC Steve Olds, but hopefully he’s what their program needs to get some life into it.
That is great news for EC! Hopefully they can get a few JH coaches and rebuild those lower level numbers as well. Certainly do NOT agree with how the BOE handled this but glad the kids have responded is a positive way!

My take is he sees opportunity at EC because of its proximity to the programs Wilmington, MT and Court House. Catch my drift?

Don’t know if coaching change or numbers matter. I see EC winning 1-2 games max this season. However, say this guy is looking ahead to other jobs/using EC as a stepping stone job…this whole situation is even worse. Olds and his staff seemed to be EC through and through. Ultimately feel bad for the kids that are having to deal with this situation.

Unfortunately I think you are right. Going to be a very tough year for them and you just have to feel bad for the kids who got put through this. It started with the BOE making that decision and it just seemed to spiral from there. Hopefully they can figure it out and start moving in the right direction or they are a school who could be in serious jeopardy of not playing football at some point in the near future.

Well, I’m happy their numbers are higher so they can hopefully field a JV team. But yes I agree. Looking at their schedule I see a potential of 2-3 wins max. 3 or more wins and it’s a successful season for the Astros. Glad the kids are coming out still, but this is a really tough situation all around for the EC Astros.
