What Moeller fan ever said they would go Undefeated? To split the next 6 games and finish 7-3 would be a hell of a regular season. Moeller is still young, 11-12 underclassmen start (including 4 junior O-lineman) and as another poster commented are probably a year away from a run at a state title.
Yeah-- a Light Year.

I watched the Moe vs EC game. Aside from Moe shooting themselves in the foot with penalties I thought they looked pretty good. I REALLY LIKE their speed and wonder how it will play into whom ultimately wins.

As for X, I have watched them play twice. They looked very good on both occasions.

I bet on Moe to win. My sole bases is a gut feeling.

Moe struggled through a half against CJ, Lakota East and Ironton (Yes I know the backup quarterback was in, it shouldn't make a difference against a D5 team). X dominated Colerain, Penn and Liberty, all top division playoff teams from last year and ended up handling West, who was arguably the second best team in the state coming into the season. This game may be closer than people thing because it is Moe and X, but in no way is Moeller in X's class. my guess is a 35-14 X win.

Anybody know the all-time series record for Moeller-St. Xavier? Moeller went for many years never losing a GCL game (Roger Bacon was with the big schools back then). It seems that X has dominate since.

Since 2000 they have played each other 25 times. This includes regular season and playoffs. St X leads the past 25 years with a 15-10 advantage.
From 1972-1988 Moeller had a 71-game GCL winning streak when Elder broke the streak.
I believe LaSalle broke their streak against Moe in 1989 and St X broke their personal streak vs Moe in 1992.
From 1992, X v Moe regular season went like this: (Sorry if I’m off on one of these. I’m getting older)
‘93 Moe won
‘94 ???
‘95 X won
‘96 Moe won
‘97 Moe won
‘98 X won
‘99 X won

That stretch from '72-'91 is the difference

This one will hinge on 2 things for the crusaders to have any chance. QB1 needs to be in the house and penalties have to be under control ( they have been very undisciplined and QB 2 has missed several long passes that QB1 puts in the basket). If both happen I will actually go moeller loss by 7. If neither happen then it will be loss by 28. A win will take some major X muff ups.

No chance then.

Without having seen them play this year, I believe St. X is the real deal and are playing as good as they finished last season. A 31-14 victory against Lakota West is telling. Calpreps has St. X at #24 and USA Today at #13 nationally.

My Crusaders are much improved this year, especially on offense - lots of weapons and a more seasoned QB. What's telling of the improvement is a 21-6 loss to East Central IN versus a 39-22 win this year. Moeller's opponents are a combined 9-0 in their other games. Lakota East is playing well this year, they have averaged 43ppg offensively at their other games and I predict they will beat Colerain and finish at 8-2 to grab the #2 GMC slot.

That said, this should be a much higher scoring affair than typical years, but X should still dominate. If we can finish the game within the same margin as Lakota West, I'll feel really really good about things.
42 St. X
21 Moeller

I am begging the Evil Empire to find some way to do the impossible and keep it within 35 points before half.
I want to see the X starters for more than a half.
The last 4 of 5 Bomber games, including last year's D1 final have been 2nd half turbo clocks with all hundred Bombers logging PT.
For the love of God is that too much to ask?

I know that this was somewhat to gue in cheek, but I can actually see Moe keeping within touching distance for the first half. I watched their game with Lakota East, and their offense is capable, especially through the air. X defense will have to balance trying to disrupt the timing routes with not getting beat over the top. The Moe O line seems to have a decent amount of size, but didn't look very athletic, and I don't think X will have a problem against the run. Cummings could have a big game

Unless the Moeller defense has rapidly improved since week 1, they're going to have a tough night. X's offense really hasn't hit that higher gear yet- the defense and special teams have put points on the board.

Moeller seniors and Juniors went undefeated in GCL as freshman. I'm curious why the disconnect of St.X being so much better. Does St. X develop players better?

The Crusader coach named Elder has the former powerhouse in the right direction and they will return to the top of the GCL soon. Over on North Bend they are going to be a State Finalist. I don't think Elder's Moeller can keep it under 4 TD's.

That’s a loaded question. Not going to get into developing players better or not, but what I will says is X does a very good job of helping the kids grow and develops into the best position for them and the team. Current senior class 4 starters played began their career as QB’s, now 2 are DB’s, 1 is a TE and one is a QB. Starting D linemen as a freshmen player DB on the JV. Not many of the kids starting right now played the position they are currently playing. Kids grow and develop differently

Freshmen teams in the GCL are composed of players from multiple parish teams; while success at that level can have some bearing for future success it is not always indicative, due to basically having to learn a new system and not playing together
In 2018, Moeller freshmen beat X 7-0; Moeller freshmen that year also lost to D4 Clinton Massie 21-14. In 2019 as soph, Moeller* lost 28-0 to X**
It shouldn't be a surprise that X could beat them 3 years later or that Moeller would beat Clinton

*Moeller soph's 2 QB's , S, DE on varsity
**X soph's QB, 2 DB's, K, RB, LB, 3 OL, DE on varsity - one of the best football classes in X's history

I've never understood why anyone other than the kids playing (or their parents) give 2 sh-ts about freshman and JV scores.

Football is not first at the school for a lot of guys like it used to be. Doesn’t mean they should not or cannot compete. Just depends on what your definition of compete is. So what you see at frosh, JV can be different at varsity.
And it’s just a small reason. Termite2 just gave another good reason. I’m sure others will have insight as well.
Decades ago, when I was there, it was football guys, and they played other sports. Now, not many dual athletes at the varsity level—with football as one of their sports. The current soph class lost several athletes to become “hoops only” guys.

I’d hate to see what the higher gear is then if this hasn’t been it

Still not sure who will be under center tonight for Moe. Senior or future all state Sophomore? :) GBM

None of the video released by Moe this week (via news feed or social media) show Noah anywhere on the practice field. It was reported last week he was ill, non covid. I hope all is well with him, but it’s definitely concerning. I’d be shocked if he plays.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the generous Men of Moeller for scheduling this game at one of my favorite venues to watch a game. Sadly, the X side won't look like it used to - basically filling most of the lower bowl on the East side of the field - but still expect a fairly decent crowd tonight.

BTW - given the GMC's recent scheduling decision (assuming it holds), IF the GCL goes to a double round robin format, how cool would it be if they formatted the schedule as three games being true rotating home games and the other three being three double headers at Nippert? I would be all in on that format.

Agreed...... Nippert is the best place to watch a high school or college football game! It's a shame the state title game isn't played there every few years.
