Teays Valley Vikings Shut Out Pickerington Central 10-0
Teays Valley softball dominated Pickerington Central on Monday, winning 10-0 behind a strong team effort. Aimee DeWeese had a standout game, driving in four runs on two hits, including a double in the first inning that scored two runs.
The Optic Vikings jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs on two hits. Harper Grimes and Makayla Jones drew walks to start the inning, and DeWeese's double scored both runners. Sophia Hastler added to the scoring with a double and a run scored off a Hayden Blackstock sac-fly to left.
Alyvia Lawrentz was dominant on the mound, striking out 11 batters in six innings while allowing just three hits. The Vikings' offense continued to score throughout the game, adding six more runs on 10 hits.
DeWeese added to her RBI total with a single in the sixth inning, scoring two more runs. Makayla Jones, Sophia Hastler, and Lawrentz each collected two hits for the Vikings.
The Tigers struggled to get going against Lawrentz and the Vikings' defense. Sofie Barnett, Tisha Thompson, and Camree Cunningham each collected one hit for the Tigers.
The Vikings will travel to Lancaster on Thursday to face the state-ranked Golden Gales in an OCC-Buckeye divisional matchup. Lancaster currently holds the #1 spot in the latest Division I softball poll, while the Vikings are ranked #3 in Division II.
Amanda-Clearcreek vs Bloom Carroll
Lady Bulldogs shuffle the Lady Aces 15-4
The Bloom Carroll Lady Bulldogs proved to be too much for the Amanda-Clearcreek Lady Aces, winning 15-4 on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs on two hits. Amanda-Clearcreek struggled to keep up, despite a strong showing from Casadee Steinmetz, who homered to center field in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs.
Claire Whitcraft led the Lady Bulldogs with four RBIs, including a home run in the fifth inning that scored three runs. Maddi Walters earned the win on the mound, striking out eight batters in six innings. Steinmetz took the loss for the Lady Aces, surrendering 15 runs on 17 hits.
Madelyn Gates led the Lady Bulldogs with four hits in four at bats, and Madi Grefe, Raychel Grove, and Gabby Johnson each collected multiple hits. Haley Robinson went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Lady Aces in hits.
The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Fairfield Union for their next game on Tuesday, while the Lady Aces will face Meadowbrook on Friday.
