Patrick Mahomes

Go Buckeyes
At this point, Mahomes is the best bet to challenge Tom Brady for the GOAT at QB. Obviously still a long ways away from catching Brady. My question is where does Mahomes rank right now if he chose to retire? What QB would he be most similar to in regard to reputation (based on success, not style)? Is he a Top 20 all-time? Top 10? Top 5? Higher?

He’s obviously very good but I wouldn’t rate him anywhere near Montana, Aikman or Bradshaw yet. Someday he very well might eclipse them. My feeling is the NFL will catch up to him and learn to slow him down especially after Kielce retires

As long as Coach Boyardee...I mean Andy Reid...is around, Mahomes will be fine unless injuries derail his career. I'm not saying Mahomes is only good because of Reid, but I believe Reid is a big reason why Mahomes can stay ahead of the curve for awhile longer.

I'd compare him to Aikman.

It’s way too early to put Mahomes into the GOAT conversation but through 6 years (only 5 as a starter) he is w/ Brady and ahead of any other qb in NFL history. At age 27 Mahomes is:

* 2 time SB champ, 1 time SB runner-up (Brady 3x SB champ)
* 2 time League MVP (Brady 0)
* 64-16 as a starter, 80% winning percentage (Brady 58-20)
* Over 24,000 passing yards, averaging 303 yards per game for his career (Brady over 18,000)
* 192-49, Td to int and 12 rushing td’s (Brady 123-66 and 3 rushing td’s)
* has taken only 121 sacks & had 31 fumbles only losing 10 of them (Brady 156 sacks, 47 fumbles w/ 19 lost)

Granted, Mahomes numbers are inflated compared to a Bradshaw or Aikman because of todays passing rules. Yes, Kelce is great but Montana had Rice & Taylor, Bradshaw had Swann & Stalworth, Aikman had Irvin, a great oline and rb Smith, Brady had Gronk & Belicheck. Mahomes may never come close to another Super Bowl (remember Dan Marino) but he’s off to a faster pace than any other qb has by 27 years of age.

He may be the greatest arm talent ever but he's only 27 with 5 full years under his belt. It's still a little early to christen as an All-Timer.

Always helps when a QB plays for a good HC and organization. Montana played for Bill Walsh (what could have been Bengals), Bradshaw - Noll, Brady - Belichick, Mahomes - Reid, Staubach - Landry. There is a trend, great QB's play for great HC's (organizations).

Completely agree, you need (especially a NFL qb) good people around you to succeed in the NFL.

For what it’s worth, Bill Belichick’s record is 298-152 but only 77-85 in 10 seasons with only 2 playoff appearances (1-2) without a guy named Brady as his starting qb,

I would add Reid in Philly with McNabb.
Also Big Ben and Cowher in Pitt
