#PACtion™ 2024

What do you guys think? West Holmes is an interesting case.
  • Upper part of Division 4 at 232 boys per the 2021 EMIS numbers (not adjusted for competitive balance
  • For comparison, Canton South 232, Northwest 250; CVCA was 232
  • Lists Triway as their rival "in all sports," per the Wikipedia entry. Triway and West Holmes have played 49 times since 1972, making the Titans their most common opponent; next is Coshocton (44 games), but third is Orrville (42 games). Fairless is 12th (15 games) and Manchester is 14th (12 games). Northwest (6 games) and Tuslaw (2 games) are well down the list. They have never played Canton South
  • Expands the footprint southward. West Holmes is a 23-minute drive south of Triway. It would be an approximately 1-hour trip for the trio of South, Manchester and Northwest
  • West Holmes, currently a founding member of the OCC, has flirted with leaving that conference in the distant past
  • Orrville came from the OCC
  • The OCC is shifting southeast with the addition of New Philly and future addition of Dover (both large D3 schools)
  • West Holmes has had an extremely good 3-year run at 36-6 since the Covid year, but is over .500 in just nine of the last 21 seasons
  • Would give the conference three D4, four D5 and one D6
  • And now ... a Bellstores 0.2 miles from the school?
Of all the options out there, there could be an argument that this would make sense. Of course, it's been crickets since this November 2022 story in The Canton Repository that indicated the PAC was looking for a new member for the 2025-26 season. That was before CVCA and the conference negotiated the Royals' departure a year early. But we know football is set for this coming fall.

When Mount Vernon left the OCC, they announced during the holiday period (Nov/Dec) of the 2022-23 school year and played just one more year in the conference. Assuming a similar timetable, if there were any interest in West Holmes actually departing the OCC and starting play in 2025-26 in another conference, news would need to break very soon.

The real question - whether its West Holmes, Copley or some other potential 8th school - is what is going on - if anything - behind the scenes? It's been awfully quiet for a long time.
Where's Gary Woods?

If you're going to add a school that drastically increases travel times there's really only one option.....

it would be great to know who is actually interested
however is doesn't help a school to openly apply and be denied only to turn back and have to deal with their current league.

i would imagine anything going on is being done so hush hush

Honest question: wouldn't Carrollton prefer the IVC (or staying in the EBC) over PACtionTM?

With the New Slaw era that might swing a Mustangs vote to West Holmes. As for Fairless, they're not far from West Holmes at all.

I'm not sure the Knights would want in; they've got to love reading about Big Lex vs Shelby basketball all year long. Plus, Wooster, Ashland, Dover and NP are reasonable drives from West Holmes.

Totally agree here. That might be why Gary Woods is like Howard Hughes these days.

A strong EBC would be the ideal situation, unfortunately it doesn't appear that is a possibility with all the jockeying for position behind the scenes. Honestly, geographically the IVC makes a ton of sense but the appeal to rejoin old rivals Northwest and Canton South is speaking a little more convincingly to me

Did Howland even close the deal with the EBC? Did it get finalized?

I'm taking it that Minerva is behind the scenes begging PACtionTM? I still think Marlington is a PACtionTM player. They have hot farm moms and some hot suburban Alliance mini van moms.

Who knows, we thought South Range had joined before and the made it all official but never played a game 🤷‍♂️

That is correct. These leagues should not issue a press release until it's official.

I'm also thinking even though I have family in the Triway building the Titans should get some trips to Carrollton because my texts about Bernie Sanders were questioned. 😂

My swing voters will be the Manchester fans. Do you want Carrollton or your hated rival Coventry?

This outta be good....

**The silent flock aka Justus Junta may go for Carrollton or West Holmes or no one at all keeping the league at 7. I can't see how Fairless would be against Coventry or Springfield....but who knows what they think in the land of Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad and the former stomping grounds of my dad at Colucci's Tavern or Porrini's? Or Newt's Place where @Raylan_Givens used to hold court.

The Buckeyes doing a lazy hire with Jon Diebler after only 6 wins and not waiting for the end of the tournament to see who else is available and then losing to Cornell in the NIT would be the most Gene Smith POS thing ever. That man should be banned off the campus but the Board of Trustees is dumm and clouded with DEI. They're corporate and corporate luvs some Biden agenda.

Gene Smith is a 3 flusher at the old Route 21 rest stop just north of the SR 93 exit.

And the new OSU AD is Bjork?

Bjork. Is that a Swedish female alternative rock band from 1993? My GF and her weirdo East Coast sorority sister friends from Denison probably liked Bjork at some hippie coffee shop in Granville or the Short North.

I now have appreciation for Mel Macaroni.

Top 10 recruiting classes at OSU and really? Sad! Even if they come back and win....this is pathetic. Ohio people settle for mediocrity.

This is how Liddle Mikey DeRINO gets elected.

We can't interview Eric Musselman because of a fight from 1972 that he had nothing to do with. His buyout at Arkansas is only a million bucks....but we can't spend that because "muh hatred" from 52 years ago.

What a joke.

I think it would be 50/50 split if you asked around for all sports. There are certain ones that would benefit from the change and others that would not. The drive is the drive most areas are 35+ minutes in any direction. The actual enrollment numbers are dropping so we may not be D4 in football in the next 3-4 years.

Mogadore is THE simple choice. Strong programs, respected name, great fan base.

West Holmes comes close and they were a founding member of the original All Ohio League, the predecessor to the PAC. I'd give them a listen.

There is absolutely nothing inspiring about Coventry, Springfield, Minerva, or Carrollton. Nothing. Nada.

Coventry is a natural fit even if their current athletics leave something to be desired

I did leave it all there and don't care what anyone thinks. 😲

DeRINO lost tonight and that's freaking glorious. Les just threw a whiskey glass across the room in New Albany.

Also.... please enjoy:

As Raylan pointed out a while back Mogadore doesn't participate in sports like soccer. That can be problematic.

@Bluestreakoffice is quiet today as he's in State Rep Reggie Stoltzfus's campaign bunker on Primary Tuesday. BSO badly wants to put Old Hartville Ways in Congress.

That basketball effort blew. That decision sucked. Lazy. Second division. That's the vote for DeWine mentality.
