PAC 2022

I think more public schools should start hosting "open house" events that just so happen to land on the same night as big athletic contests, and then give prospective athletes and their parents (and everyone else) free entry into the event. Sounds like a great way to host an "official visit." LoL

So you want public schools to just do what private schools do? I like your style!

I tell ya what though - lets make it more rules friendly and use a charity as an excuse, any person (athlete) who brings a canned good to the game gets in free! There - now we still get to be public school kids! 😂

1. Just realized it's almost OCT and Manchester hasn't won a game yet.

2. What's the over/under for combined pass attempts tonight Canton S/Triway? 50, 60?

3. Also just realized that no matter how you feel about public v private and competitive balance, when PAC loses CVCA this board is going to be a LOT quieter. Will miss y'all

Oh I know. That's why I said I could "almost" see it. I will say if you were starting a league from scratch those schools would match well together.
100% agree. Think there was a thread about that (back when we were all stuck at home and bored out of our minds) - "create your own new league" or something like that. WCAL is a GREAT league because of the history & rivalries, but also because it's MUCH CHEAPER for the members. Those weekday & middle school sports don't hurt the budget when you're only driving 20 minutes down the road.

Even just adding Triway & Orrville would put them at 10 and then you'd only need 1 non-league football game and have 4 less basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball games to find.

Won't happen, but (back to PAC focus) Tuslaw & Manchester sure better make their opinions heard in picking the CVCA replacement or they might be sucking hind teet for a long time.

💯

Just can't see the league adding a D5 or lower school to the equation at this point. Which in reality, unfortunately means that Tuslaw may be the next school vacating for a new home in the not so distant future. WCAL would be perfect for Tuslaw, but is never going to happen. Any chance for IVC openings for Tuslaw in the future? IDK where else they'd go tbh....

I'm sure there are kids that play sports at CVCA - that came to CVCA specifically to play that sport though. Albeit, not as much as you see at Hoban, or St V, or Eds/Iggy.....but they do get those athletes regardless of what sport it is (cough Darryn cough Peterson) (cough Gia cough Casalinova) (Jordan and Jacob Decatur - among many many other wrestlers..)

Public schools aren't afforded the opportunity to just welcome such players with open arms - now, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen in public schools, but there is a lot more red tape and hoops to jump through/around to make something like that happen. So for this reason, I believe the competitive balancing is fair.

Both Decatur's almost ended up at Wadsworth despite having no family ties to Wadsworth. What would your feelings have been had that been the case? Would they be different because they ended up at a public? Just curious if it's only an advantage when they end up at a private?

You're describing the rarity though, not the norm. And that's kind of my point, an uber talented kid ends up at a private - everyone gives you the proverbial sigh and moves on. Same kid ends up at an out of district public school, people raise questions, they contact OHSAA, everyone virtually throws a fit. That's the difference!

I'm not sure what happened with the Decatur's and why they didn't end up at Wadsworth - but if I was just making an assumption, it'd be that there was eligibility questions, potential sit-down requirements for transferring, etc....all the red tape and hoops I previously mentioned that discourages public school transfers/recruiting. Where were they originally from? Why didn't they end up going to Wadsworth?

And you can argue till we're blue in the face that it happens with Publics, where kids transfer in. No one is disagreeing with that, we all have examples of it happening. The difference is, MOST public schools don't have kids transfer in for athletics, and the occasional few that do get those sneaky transfers - it's usually 1 maybe 2 players. Whereas there are privates who have entire starting lineups of those transfers. Thus, the need for competitive balance.

There could be moves coming. A little bird told me the WCAL has made overtures to Triway, Orrville, Manchester, and Tuslaw. Not sure if they only want some of those schools or all of those schools. It would be interesting to see what they come up with for scheduling and rotations. It would make scheduling easier. If this happens an announcement could come quickly.

Scheduling Triway twice would definitely help fill up a schedule. :ROFLMAO:

Hiland not having football really messes up possible IVC expansion. Right now, both the North and the South have member schools who don't play football in the IVC.

If Tuslaw was added to the South you could add Conotton to football in the North but then your divisions would be uneven in all other sports.

If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Don't you think that if CVCA was operated like typical private they would have dominated the PAC? I mean we literally have had 1 basketball player in the history of the program that is considered a "national recruit". In football maybe 4 kids have went on the play in division 1 programs (Pettigrew, Tucker, Junko and a lineman from the 90's. Even the wrestling program hasn't produced that many division 1 wrestlers. What's funny is when CVCA was terrible in football from 13-17 no one really had much to say. When we got competitive again since 2017 they must have started recruiting better 😂😂.

CVCA 22
Fairless 7

Fairless with 3 unsportsmanlike conduct call in the second quarter just killed them. Stopped there own drive one then 2 more. It must be something that is being said because I haven't seen any late or extra curricular going on after plays. Definitely shooting their mouth off about something.

Fairless with an absolute choke job tonight. Undisciplined coaching staff and players cost them the game with boneheaded penalties all night. Congratulations to CVCA you hung tough and didn't stoop to low levels like the Falcons did.

I can't find a box score yet but somebody on Twitter said it was over 150 yards in penalties, what happened?

I believe things were being said on the field because a few of them were pre play or post play when the players weren't even close to each other. The Fairless staff was called for unsportsmanlike conduct for 2 sideline warnings. Probably 6 personal foul unsportsmanlike penalties after the 1st quarter. Several ended a Fairless drive or kept a CVCA drive alive.

Can't wait to read the write ups tomorrow, was it streamed anywhere?

I've been as hard as anyone on Fairless, but they do have a talented team. The problem tonight was it seemed they wanted to tell CVCA they were the better team rather than show them. They could have been called for the sideline penalty several other times. Emotion only gets you so far, especially when you're playing equal to better talent.

They need more leadership & less flexing.
