OHSAA - Pro Football HOF Announcement

honestly, would rather see em at Massillon than Benson. They always have those youth travel championships going on with it, which makes parking a hassle. Heck, the HOF might do more to hurt the future of football with those travel youth football tournaments than anything

ok I am getting off my soap box

If the old Crew stadium had turf, it would be the perfect venue size and location for the games. But if the HOF is that eager to have the games it's hard to not go where you're wanted.

MAPFRE definitely has the better location, but the actual venue of Tom Benson stadium is about as good as you can get for high school games in the state

The announcement is that the Championship Games will be in Canton for at least the next 3 years in a partnership with the HOF.

CANTON, OHIO – The Ohio High School Athletic Association and Pro Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday announced a three-year agreement for the Hall to host the state football championships in Canton. The games, across Ohio's seven divisions, will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium beginning in 2021.

Pro Football Hall of Fame Chief Administrative Officer Steve Strawbridge and OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute outlined the partnership at a news conference in the Hall of Fame's James Allen Family Gold Jacket Lounge.

"The OHSAA is excited for this three-year agreement with the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as our student-athletes, schools and communities will get to experience Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium and all that Canton and the Hall of Fame Village have to offer," Ute said. "We are grateful to the Hall of Fame for their partnership, and we look forward to collaborating with the Hall year-round."

Canton, Massillon and Ohio State University have hosted the state football championships at various points over the past 30 years. With its ties to the game and Canton's rich history, the OHSAA believed the Pro Football Hall of Fame was the ideal place to host the state football championships.

"The Hall of Fame prides itself in treating OHSAA football teams and their fans the same way we treat the NFL teams and their fans," Strawbridge said. "We give them a first-class experience while they are here. We take the teams through the museum and promote the values of the game. We look forward to providing an exceptional experience for the players, coaches, families and fans attending the games in Canton – the pinnacle of football."

Visit Canton, which first hosted the state football championships starting in 1990 and most recently in Canton from 2017-19, will continue to be a sponsor and partner of the events.

Today's news conference was streamed live on the OHSAA's Facebook page: (www.facebook.com/OHSAASports).

More information regarding the state football championships and ticket sales will be made available in the coming months.

It sounds like the idea of partnering with the Hall of Fame is what really sold the OHSAA. They feel the entire campus will contribute to a special, professional atmosphere that is what the kids deserve at that level of competition.
Better than being the redheaded stepchild at OSU I guess.

It seems that more championships are moving out of Columbus.

Ute acknowledged Massillon was part of the conversation for potential hosts going forward. Ohio State served as state championship host from 2014-16, and Ute said Columbus was considered but added, “there’s more good venues than just Columbus, Ohio.”

Earlier this year, the state boys and girls basketball championships moved to Dayton. Fewer sports are being played in the central location of Columbus with cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, plus track and field remaining in Columbus.

“We want to be a place where somebody wants us,” Ute said. “We want that experience because we’ll bring 14 communities here in a weekend, and we want our communities to have a great experience.”

LOL!
Am I to assume from your avatar that you consider PBTS the best?
Just asking for a friend......
(Thanks for the chuckle).
Congratulations....you cracked the code. Tell him what he's won Johnny.

Everything, from atmosphere, to service at the concession stand is better at PBTS. Oh....and you don't have to walk halfway around the stadium, then wait for 30 minutes to buy a program.

Or park in the north lots and walk all the way up the hill and around the south side to enter the stadium, the cross the stadium to the north side stands to sit in the visitors stands.

Great way to get your cardio in......

I’ve never been there but I talked to a Hoban dad yesterday and he loved PBTS. Every single second of it. ?

gonna get on my little soap box as a resident of southeastern ohio and say I hate it and I wish it would be in columbus and yes I get it OSU does not want to host it but I am not a huge fan of it not being in a centralized location for almost everyone, and before someone says what about any school in central ohio being close it yes you are right. would be unavoidable to have a perfect spot. just my 2 cents
