Ohio State Recruiting

As always with recruiting, things can change in a second, but the 24/7Sports Site (??? Never seen this before) put in a prediction for the Buckeyes to land Bralan Womack, the #1 safety in the class. The buckeyes landing the #1 and #2 safeties, from MS and LA respectively, would be an insane and unprecedented haul.

As great as that is it all starts up front and the DL recruiting is as bad as it’s been right now.

I agree with you sparty . The lack of DLineman recruiting is going to turn into an issue just like the O Line recruiting did back in 2022 . It takes 2-3 cycles of taking your foot ff the gas in one area and it catches up .

It’s beyond time for Larry Johnson to be let go. Since the 2022 class the recruiting has been awful on the DL. OSU just won a title on the backs of the great DL class from 2021 and haven’t come close to assembling anything like that since then

I'm starting to wonder about Tyler Bowen some. Darius Gray is getting predicted to LSU now by Steve Wiltfong and so far all Tyler Bowen has gotten are guys Justin Frye could have also gotten. He really has done nothing impressive from a recruiting standpoint yet.

He’s supposed to build and win the relationship battle in 3 months? lol

And yet neither of those schools are in Darius Gray’s Final 3.
Texas is considered the team to beat for Felix Ojo though and ND has a higher ranked OL commit than anyone OSU currently has. Again, it is early but I don't like where this is trending and I especially don't like that people are labeling him to be such a good recruiter without accomplishing anything that Justin Frye wouldn't have also done so far. I need to see him pull the elite kids out of the south

Different positions.

By 28 spots, #100 vs. #128, totally negligible.

Riley is at Clemson if Frye is still in Columbus.

I don't care, I just want elite linemen

Sure for the ranking. Optics wise it's much better recruiting by ND considering they went into Penn State territory to get this kid while OSU had the handicap of having Ohio kids to recruit.

Idk about that. I believe the reason he was holding off was because he knew Frye was gone and wanted to see who the new coach was going to be

You need someone on the job for more than 3 months for that to happen.
No it's not.
Yes it is. You’d have a better point if we were talking about #28 ranked recruit vs. #56. 100 vs 128 is negligible.

The kid committed to ND while Bowen was recruiting and coaching for Virginia Tech. This matters, no matter how much you don’t want it to.

He came out and said it lol I’ll try to find the quote, can’t remember which insider it was with.

No doubt, OSU wasn’t recruiting this kid head to head vs ND. I’m just wondering where OSUs high level OL from out of state also are?
They get them in the form of transfers. Simmons and Onianwa. Simmons ended up being a first round pick despite a significant in season injury, we’ll see how Onianwa fares.

Sure they could pony up $2m a year for a Jackson Cantwell, who has a probability of being a bust, a higher probability of sitting for 2 years and an even higher probability of transferring out of the school he signs with. Or they could use the same money for a legit Day 1 starter at LT in Onianwa and potential starter/needed depth piece in Daniels.

Then you should know being a position coach in college is largely a big time sales role and you're expected to hit the ground running or else why are you even here? Hell, Bowen makes more money than 98% of sales roles out there so he has 0 excuses.
The last couple of years OSU had just Justin Frye and not Tyler Bowen
And I still need to see a distinct difference in the results and I haven't yet

this is the first good point you have made. I will just say that it's not wise to put all of your chips in the transfer portal considering OSU level offensive lineman are rare to find there.
So we go your route and make up a narrative that has no evidence of being true and run with it?
If you want to believe every word that runs out of a 17 year olds mouth then have at it

If it were solely transactional you’d have a great point.

Seems like a you problem. There’s plenty of distinct differences already. The biggest one being Bowen is setting a wider net vs. hyper focusing on 1-2 guys and having no back up plans in place like Frye did.

Of course it isn’t. Luckily the Buckeyes don’t solely rely on the portal.

I don’t believe every word they say, I also dont make up narratives that have no way of being proven.

It is transactional. Good players = wins, wins = money

Key word = results. I don't care how you get there but I expect the elite players to be at OSU. Casting a wider net does nothing for me if you're missing on options A, B, and C.

It's called deductive logic.

Couldn't have said it any better. Last 4 years OSU has had 9 o-lineman drafted (Mclaughlin would have made it 10 if it had not been for injury), 3 in the 1st rd. (2 in 1st rd. this year only school with 2 o-lineman drafted in 1st. rd.). Fact is OSU is getting plenty of elite players including the o-line.
