Ohio State Football 2024

Seth McLaughlin is your 2024 Rimington Trophy winner.

Ohio State has had 4 winners since the award was introduced in 2000 (Bentley 2001, Elflein 2015, Price 2017). McLaughlin winning moves Ohio State into sole possession of most Rimington award winners, breaks the tie for the most with Michigan.

They should have lost to USC and Minnesota. They were extremely lucky to only have 5 losses.
Maybe, but that can be said for a number of teams when you analyze schedules and results. I have to believe you have watched enough games to know that's sports! They were never going to get rolled as the betting line suggested and the craziest Buckeye Fans thought. People could argue OSU should of lost to Penn State and Nebraska.. But that didn't happen and seasons go on.

Nebraska yes. Penn State, no.

I’m not sure what your point is. Of course other games can be that way. But some are a lot closer to a loss than others.

McLaughlin was a tremendous loss (injury) but congratulations to McLaughlin from being ridiculed on SM last year after the CFP playoffs to Rimington award winner this year.

McLaughlin and Downs were both named to Walter Camps’ 1st team All American list. The WC list is one of five publications that count towards determining which players are consensus and unanimous All-Americans. The other four are the AFCA, AP, FWAA, and Sporting News who will announce over the next 5 days.

Jeremiah Smith was named second team AA by Walter Camp

A snippet from Eleven Warriors about McLaughlin:
While McLaughlin spent four years at Alabama before transferring to Ohio State in January, he believes he improved tremendously in just one season as a Buckeye.

“It's been great. It's everything I needed,” McLaughlin said earlier this week in an interview with the National Football Foundation. “Just being in Alabama for four years, I wasn't where I wanted to be at the end of last year. And for the people at Ohio State to welcome me in with open arms and really pour into me and develop me even further, it didn't feel like I could develop anymore as a 22-year-old senior, but as a 23-year-old fifth-year, I think they really got a lot out of me this year.”

Any Buckeyes that were originally Buckeyes outside of Smith get mentioned. That class with Sawyer and company really never developed into what I thought they would.

1. you lose your LAST, not 1st, 2nd, 3rd... your LAST game of the year - AT HOME - by 22 points.
Yeah, that one is a mystery. Michigan must have wanted it more:ROFLMAO:

Ahead of the game, University of Tennessee president Randy Boyd mentioned Ohio State is expecting 30 percent of Ohio Stadium to be filled with Vol fans.

"Great to run into Ohio State president Ted Carter at the New Era Forum held at Deloitte University," Boyd said. "He thinks the stadium may be 30% orange - way to go Vol fans! First game ever played at Ohio Stadium in the month of December, and likely the first below freezing game the Vols have played in decades! Going to be a great game!"

Losing McLaughlin and Simmons was no big deal. Just ask the trolls on here.

I have been looking for but haven't found anything on it. Some sort of objective analysis on OSU Offense vs. Michigan's Defense. The Michigan D-line could handle themselves well without the aid of blitzing much. Was Michigan doing anything in the secondary with their coverages that wasn't on film much leading into the game? Was Smith being doubled a lot? I can't recall if there were many times when Michigan dropped 8 into coverages...

Michigan did have 5 losses, but 3 were to Oregon, Texas and Indiana. I think they laid an egg against Washington. Depending on the source, 3 teams in the top 8-9 of the polls. It was a bad loss, but to act like Michigan was like MAC school was naive by many Buckeye Fans. I never thought Michigan would win, but I did think the 3TD spread was very generous for OSU.

I think the fact that Michigan could neutralize Ohio State's offensive line with just their four man defensive front allowed them to drop five in zone coverage with Smith being double covered over the top. Plus coaching instruction to interfere with Smith so as to not let him beat you.

I don't think Ohio State coaching was surprised with Michigan's defensive strategy, but I think they were shocked that their oline played so poorly and could not open any running lanes with a five on four advantage.

I don't see this as surprising it the crowd does turn out to be 30% or more Rocky Top. I believe the CFP committee is the actual game manager and controls the ticket sales after the initial season ticket holder distribution. Throw in students not being on campus and many State fans seeing the game as a consolation matchup after the UM loss, it would not be surprising to see a lot of orange in the Shoe. Vol fans are excited. Buck fans not so much.

Then there is this

A Leaked Presale Code Allowed “Rabid” Vols Fans to Purchase Tickets for Ohio State-Tennessee, Leaving Only Resale Tickets Available at Higher Prices

Thus Tennessee fans got into Ohio State's ticket allotment.

Honestly if you are going to pretty much hang your hat on the Georgia game, that was joke to me from the beginning of announcing the 4 teams. IMHO, you do NOT make the 4 team playoffs when all of the listed happen: 1. you lose your LAST, not 1st, 2nd, 3rd... your LAST game of the year - AT HOME - by 22 points. That is NOT a playoff team. 2. You aren't a playoff team when you can't even win your 1/2 of the conference division. 3. You can't make the playoffs when you couldn't even make the playoff game for your own conference. I don't care how good they played vs. Georgia, it was an undeserving, second chance gift by the bias committee for the reasons I listed. Especially reason number 1.
they were either the best or 2nd beat team in the country that yr with georgia . period.anyone else would have been run over by Georgia including Michigan who couldnt even beat a JV team in TCU . Sour grapes . Mich had to CHEAT to win a title THAT will eventually be stripped from them . It will be announced in 2025 when investigation is done . loser

tired of everyone saying how TALENTED OSU is this year .Yes, talented for college football team in general but compared to their past teams . Ill list the postions so you all slower folfk s can comprehend: QB - Will Howard vs Braxton Miller ,JT Barrett , CJ Stroud .. LB?? : Sonny Styles lololol vs AJ HAwk ,Laurinitis , and i could on and on .... O line ??lolololol worst O line even before injuries .... D Backs lololol-- outside of Downs , the rest dont hold a candle to Denzel Ward, Malcolm Jenkins, CHimde Chikwa , Marshon Lattimore,,Vonn Bell,Ahmed Plummer, Eli Apple etc etc etc lolol ...MY POINT IS OHIO ST IS NOT AS TALENTED TOP TO BOTTOM AS ALOT OF THEIR PREVIOUS TEAMS LAST 10-15 yrs .. go look it for yourselves ..K DIAMOND can help you read if you need yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
