A lot of videos updated from the Southern Scuffle.

Who is this David Taylor (RS Freshman) at Penn State? He's good. (lol) :thumb:

Videos for a few names you may recognize-

184 lbs - Keith Witt (Kent State) vs. Ryan Garringer (Ohio)

157 lbs - David Taylor (Penn State)

125 lbs - Ty Mitch (Virginia Tech)

141 lbs - Casey Thome (Army)

197 lbs - Dustin Kilgore (Kent State)

OK....I'm tired of cutting and pasting, just go to Flo and check it out.

What a scramble by Taylor. It looked as if Wukie was for sure in on a takedown there with that ankle pick. Wow. Impressive stuff.

Moeller's Germane Lindsey fought back from a tough 1st round upset winning 5 in a row [only the truly tough survive, eh?] to end up 7th. Way to go get it on kid.

Cliff was a little much with the commentary lol. The three videos I was of DT there were two TF and one pin. Not bad.

Wow, what wrestling! Some great matches, what a tournament. Having said that... the cinematography could use a little help, white balance was inconsistent, contrast too high, keep your reticle on the wrestlers at all times boys and where's the hi-def?

did everyone notice all the stalling calls for guys riding on top?????

NOT!

That is because the rules are different. In high school the top wrestler is supposed to be working for a turn. College the objective for the top man is to control the bottom man.

I see a lot of talk about Steiber as an Olympian, but after seeing what Taylor has been doing to everyone this year, what are his chances? He is destroying some good competition, so I am curious to see what people think.

Taylor is middle of two weight classes for the 74kg (163 lbs.). 163 is pretty loaded the Paulsons, Sanderson and Andrew Howe all heavy contenders. If anyone could do it it would be Taylor. Taylor was jr. Olympian and placed 3rd if I recall correctly. I would guess it would a goal of his to win gold....be world's best. Watching him compete is like watching Cael Sanderson or John Smith....always looking to score, his defense even looks like he's on offense and dominate. See how him and Fittery go at it will be great!

Logan Stieber is already ranked 6th and with a year to train could move up higher. His path seems likely since he's already at 125.

Not relevant to this thread...BUT Refs in Northern Ohio call top/bottom 100% completely different than SW Refs.

It was relevant in response to the post above. I don't see takedown getting snippy about my post.

Funny thing is your post isn't relevant because were talking about high school/college officials, not north/south.

Ok, I've whined enough.

I was saying that my post wasn't relevant to the original thread not yours. Wasn't meant as an attack or to be "snippy" about your comment..relax. I was trying to point out that north and south officials call riding vs turning differently.. That doesn't mean I don't think we have good officials because we do. They just look at things/call things in a different manner.

UMMMMMM the rules are the same (except for riding time).....the officials offifiate differently.....if they officiated the same (like other states such as Pa) the Ohio kids would be better prepared for college.

Sorry, my bad.

Riding time is terrible. I know the college wrestlers on this forum disagree and I have no problem with that. I love college wrestling with or without riding time but I really wish they would get rid of it. Boring as all get out watching someone hang on to someone for 2 minutes with no action.

In all honesty I can not disagree with your last statement. But I will say that we don't make the rules and we call stalling the way we are taught.

I actually like riding time. While it can be boring to watch for some (I don't mind), but if someone is able to stay on top for over a minute I feel you should get rewarded for that. I enjoyed the Humphrey/Ness match a couple years ago in the NCAA semi's when Reece won on riding time. Just my two cents

I like riding time. The bottom man has to get away, that's the action.
Sounding like a homer again but he's a great example of what I'm talking about- David Taylor rides and "stays busy" with tilts then "cuts" and takes back down. Then repeats over and over.

David Taylor is the exception. I think we can all agree on this.

A way higher percentage of the college wrestlers do not do this. Let's take the awesome Schlatter, he would just control and hang. That is boring.

I've said this before as a purist, I like college wrestling. But people in the middle of the road like my wife don't like it. She is very sports inclined and loves to high school wrestling. Watching someone hang on top in a college match for most of the match is boring.

I just thought about something. I agree with the comment above about the top man being rewarded for being able to ride. So I will change my mind about riding time. What I will say is if he is working for a turn then great, but controlling and hanging on is what I don't like.

Watch the Palmer/Taylor match from a couple of years ago. That match was well officiated and was a consistent flow. Most college matches everyone is at that level with a lot less action. If they were forced to wrestle like this we would be able to recruit more fans to our awesome sport!

Wow, so you have become quite the cameraman and producer. Look forward to your expertise the rest of the season. Will miss you when your gone my man!!!!

I don't like riding time either...but it is what it is, and the way Ohio calls stalling, we are not doing our kids any favors. The fact is that kids form other states are much better prepared to wrestle in college coming out of high school.

That said, HS and college should be more like freestlye in order to help prep our best for international competition. You may let a kid ride for 15 sec or so, if there is no turn, they start again on their FEET. This would be a very good rule change.

Totally agree. Don't get me wrong, I love folkstyle. But there is no doubt in my mind that we could be dominant internationally in wrestling like we are in some other sports if our kids were wrestling strictly freestyle/greco from day 1.

I sat next to some kids from overseas at Senior Nationals some years back and they said all they do is wrestle freestyle back home and that they never cut weight while in high school. Hmmmm...

Funny thing is though, FILA needs to change the rules one last time so their sport can stay interesting because with the exception of Cejudo in the last Olympics it looked like everyone was trying to win 1-1 scoring the last point by not getting turned. Boring!

Different college coaches also. Dustin started the controlling and hanging on after his Freshman year. I think Dustin lost his priority offense mentality.

I know what ya mean tho', I just appreciate that part of wrestling.
