It was a pleasure this past evening to see how well the boys & girls did at the Ohio HS Hammer meet @ OSU yesterday, despite OHSAA's attempts to limit HS hammer throwing in Ohio. I note the following:
Boys
Brandt Morlock (Norwayne, Sr.) upped his best by approx. 10%, launching a 5th-round best of 223' 3" (68.04m), moving him up to #3 All-Time! It was the best hammer throw in Ohio since 2016! In 2nd, Akyus Richardson (Lima Shawnee, Jr.) joined the top-30 with his 194' 2" (59.18m) best in moving to #27 A-T. Seven (7) boys in total exceeded the 180 ft line in total. On a sad note, no Cincinnati-area boys were present in the competition. 136 boys have now thrown over 155 feet in Ohio HS history, 49 of those over 180 ft.
Girls
It was a tight competition at the top as the first five (5) girls all set new lifetime bests within a 7-1/2 foot differential, Aubree Beery (Lancaster, Sr.) coming out on top at 155' 11" (47.52m). That moves her to #14 A-T. Following-up closely behind her were Jenna Olsen (Worthington, Sr.), Jana Metz (Botkins, Sr.), Kinsey Shull (Riverdale, Sr.), and Haley Bittinger (Norwayne, Jr.), with bests of 152' 1", 150' 10", 150' 3", and 148' 4", respectively. Twelve (12) girls in total threw over the 40m (131' 3") line in total. 124 girls have now thrown over 120 feet in Ohio HS history, 68 of those over 40m.
