NWCC 2025

NWCC doesn't get a lot of chatter but I wanted to put this thread out in case anyone wanted to discuss the 2025 season.

It looks like the top half of the league lost quite a few seniors, though I can't find good info on Waynesfield Goshen's roster. Elgin lost some key guys on both sides of the ball but some younger kids started coming on.

I'd wager Elgin is a good bet, just from size of school.

I'll say
Elgin
WG
USV
Ridgedale
Ridgemont
Perry
HN
NB
CR

Are there any coaching changes at this point? Last I knew, NB is open - was this filled?

The league was pretty good by NWCC standards last year. USV, WG, Ridgemont, HN, and Elgin all had decent teams. But I think they all lost a lot of seniors so I expect some fall off.

After doing some digging, NB and Ridgedale bring a lot back but idk what that will lead to. Ridgedale will have 10+ seniors I believe.

Elgin lost some very key pieces but their roster is much bigger than everyone else's so they should be able to replace easier.

NB is filled, I think a guy from Elmwood.

Certainly respect the league and it's place in HS athletics as a place for teams who otherwise would be mostly getting slaughtered and struggle with numbers. Just having the league available has likely saved a few of these programs, so that's a positive.

So I'm throwing zero shade when I ask...anyone in the league with any shot of a playoff win this year? I know Waymesfield beat North Central a couple of years ago and USV gave DSJ all they can handle last year. Anyone potentially able to do that this year?

This isn't me being a homer but I'd have to think Elgin has the best chance if they are able to get a high seed and a favorable matchup.

Last year seemed like the strongest the league's been in a while as a whole but looks to be down this year.

Unless they're paired against one another, no. Last year was an "up" year and they won exactly 0 playoff games. It would take a very, very favorable matchup.

Edit: My post may have sounded harsh, but I don't mean to be. I think this league is great for the schools in it. It provides a fairly "stable" league that helps AD's schedule and allows the smallest of the small schools to field the smallest of the small rosters with some competitive games. I think the teams comprising this league know they aren't going to play a gauntlet that prepares them for playoffs, and that's okay.

I didn't think you sounded harsh. It was realistic as everyone in the league should be.
Everyone in the league should enjoy the competition throughout the year and fight for a league title and just hope for the best come post season.

I saw Ridgedale is now looking for a coach, does this change your predictions for better or worse?

Probably worse. I don't know how to judge coach Chatman on Xs and Os but I do know he's a very well liked guy. I think the lack in continuity will hurt but that depends a lot on who the next coach is.
Someone had said they didn't think it would be anyone on the current staff but it also hasn't been posted on OHSAA which could mean they have someone internal in mind.
I would maybe knock them down to under USV until we see who takes the reins.

Congrats on the new AD @CometGetIt
I don't know him real well but always seemed like a real nice guy. From what I can gather it looked like he did good job at Ridgemont and was well liked. Is that your impression of him?

edit to add:
Also, admin at Elgin is in need of some enthusiasm for their job that I hope he brings.

I just saw on facebook that he left Ridgemont for Elgin as I have family at Ridgemont. Sounded like he was well liked and did a nice job there.

I wish him luck. Ridgemont is widely viewed as ten-foot pole job and to go 8-2 is impressive.

Was surprised that NB got Elmwoods FB coach. Elmwood I know lost one of the Traxler boys but the other one was coming back and they had some nice linemen coming back. Cupboards though, must be barer than I realized in Royal land

I know this is nwcc thread, but does Ada return a lot from last year? I was impressed with their first season in the BVC.

They lose QB Green and some big boys on the both lines but some very good athletes coming back in the skill positions. Should be very good athletes coming the receiver positions. I am not sure of the final record but the jv team did have a winning record and some good players

That's great to hear about returning athletes! Hopefully they can continue to build on last year. I saw track had some great relays and a couple nice sprinters, can't teach speed.
