Notre Dame

I mean they lucked into what? 2 other play off spots, back when it was only 4 teams? Got boat raced in both of those. Of course that was under Kelley. But truth be told, this game wasn't really all that much different.
I do not believe ND will be able to successfully be a Top 3 type of recruiting school on a consistent basis. I believe they will need the portal more so than the other top schools. The admission requirements are higher at ND than most schools. There are not as many 5 star guys who can get into ND and who actually want to go there. I think ND can bring in the guys like QB Leonard: someone not good enough to get a offer from ND coming out of high school but proved in a 2-3 years of college that they can play at a ND. Hopefully their next qb can throw better than Leonard.

ND can pick the top players from a Duke, Wake Forrest, Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, etc. One other advantage ND has in getting back to the College Playoffs; their schedule isn’t that difficult. 5 ACC schools, a couple of service academies, USC, etc

I think he has put on a lot of weight since then. He is down right clumsy.
Clumsy is the wrong word he moves around the pocket fine and throws the ball well on the run. Clumsy in that in the open field he gets too excited and gets his feet going to fast maybe. Couple of the outside sweeps Howard was quick enough maybe that says something about ND's lack of speed on defense not sure.

It was a lot different. Under Kelly, they're not fighting back to get the game within in 1 score in the 4th quarter.

Supposedly will find out today if Al Golden becomes the next Bengals DC. ND statistically had a good defense but vs OSU over pursued leaving the back door open on cutbacks. The one play that stuck in my craw though was the walk in TD by Smith, a ND defender was jumping up and down pointing at Smith yet no one covered him. How did the ND coaches up in the booth not spot that and call down to have Freeman call a timeout?

I have to say, thank God Notre Dame lost. Was at the game, what a condescending bunch of people. There were a few on our section giving this younger guy in down the row crap for not being an OSU grad and calling him a Walmart Buckeye. That was terrible to see, I’m glad folks around them put those dudes in their place
oh for goodness sake .its a football game for the whole enchilda .probably drunk irishmen and women . Ive seen O$U fans with much more abusive behavior against opposing fans , spitting at them, blowing farts in their face , dumping beers on them. suck it up buttercup

Impressed with Notre Dame never giving up and battling to the end. Looks like Freeman was the perfect hire. Notre Dame future looks bright.

There was an article on line and the acceptance rate at ND was 12.5% The other semi-finalists were well over 50%. I know there are exceptions to the rule.

Yes. ND and OSU are completely different types of schools. Those acceptance rates are for incoming freshmen. Most Catholic kids throughout the US who get a 32 ACT or higher apply to ND. I believe ND has freshman classes of about 4,000 (about 13,500 total students) and I believe the ACT average is 33-34. Ohio State has freshman classes closer to 13,000-15,000 (about 51,000 undergrad students total) and I believe the ACT average is 28 to get to the main campus. Below that you have having to go to Nation or Newark your freshman year. Completely different school opportunities between the two but for the football players for each - I do not believe the general acceptance rates really apply.

Obviously ND would be lucky to be as good as the service academies if they applied the same enrollment requirements to their football players as they do to their general students; not too many D1 quality football players are going to get a 33+ on their ACT.

Do they gotta wear shades?

Notre Dame losing players. Coogan and Spindler hit the portal
Everyone loses players. Neither were likely to start next yr sans injury. ND has 6-7 stud OL right now:

LT- Knapp/ Jagusah/Black
LG- Schrauth
C- Craig
RG- Jagusah/Knapp
RT- Wagner/Lambert

The DL, especially DT, is the big issue.

Depth is always a concern. I believe the starting LG for OSU in the title game (Montgomery) was considered their 9th best olineman at the start of the season. OSU lost a couple of starters and the next thing you know - Montgomery is starting.

With so many games to get to & win the national championship, one needs 7 or 8 quality starting olinemen.

Yet somehow,,despite their football players being accepted with lower scores than ND’s other students, they graduate at a higher rate. 🤔

I will take your word for it. I have no idea if ND football players graduate at a higher rate than the ND student population. Good for them if they do.

True, but you're not going to be able to keep OL who started 10+ games this season, as backups.

Nobody has ever contended that ND football players have the same rigorous course work as students. However, going to class and staying on track to graduate is a lot more than what's required of the majority of D1 football players.

Has he taken any game snaps? What of their back up this year?
No, he redshirted. The backup from this season (Angeli) is a very low ceiling/high floor, game manager type. He's more along the lines of a starting QB at lower end B10 school.

Chad Bowen leaving ND to be the General Manager at USC.

It's official. As
@mzenitz
was all over, I can confirm that Chad Bowden has accepted the General Manager position for
@uscfb
.He did some incredible things during his time in South Bend with the Fighting Irish and will surely have success in this role with the Trojans in Los Angeles.
