That year, ND beat #1 Miami, #2 USC, #3 WVU and #9 Michigan. Not exactly a bunch of lightweights like OSU’s Big Ten slate filled with patsies most seasons.

Substandard recruiting and player development in comparison to the tippy-top elite programs. And in the case of Willingham and Weis, the wrong coaches at the helm.
