Northwest Ohio Realignment

I've talked to several coaches and they all seem to think the 12th team is going to come from the west. Defiance? Wauseon? That doesn't match up with what districts are saying publicly.
What district has said anything publicly?

I know that the Defiance superintendent was interested in the expanding NLL, but heard that no one else in the school was. Maybe that has changed.

I've heard nothing, just a fan and no longer living in Defiance so I'm out of the loop.

But maybe with expanded playoffs we think we can schedule our way into playoff contention with more non league games? Maybe the new coach is interested in the idea? Maybe it's not us at all.

Who knows. After 106 pages, anything is possible lol.

Just saw on Twitter that Vanlue is searching for a head coach just 32 days away from their first game.... I'd be shocked if they play a full season, assuming they field a team at all

I am shocked they are even trying to field a team. Only had like 6 returning players. So if they play good change 5+ freshman will be playing both ways. Or course running clock 2nd half with keep the number of plays down.

Will any new conference realignments now not be made until the '23-'24 school year? Don't most use a 2 year buffer?

I believe that is the case for the NLL and NBC, correct? Their conference changes/additions will go into effect the '22-'23 school year?

1. Go to 8 man
2. Drop football
3. Leave the BVC

Schools shouldn't have to wait until the week of the game to see if Vanlue can field a team.

The way they are clinging to having a football team make me believe they think once football is gone the school will be gone within a couple years. Like what happened with Fostoria St. Wendelin.
Well to be fair, I think that it'll be like FSW in the way that once they pulled the plug on football, the school was pretty much done and that was their last school year. I could see that same thing happening to Vanlue.

I agree their fear is not unfounded but big difference as you know is they are public so tax dollars will keep coming in. I believe that they do not have a class in double digits in elementary school and heard they had 3 kids sign up for kindergarten for this year and after two of parents saw how small the class was they enrolled elsewhere. So IMO their days as a school is numbered regardless if they have football or not but not having football will most like make that happen sooner.

When the last enrollment count was done back in October, there were only 152 students in the entire district K-12. 6 classes had 10 or fewer students and 5 of those were in the elementary (K-5). The biggest class in the district at the time was the 8th grade (soon to be freshmen) with 19 kids.

Vanlue shares a treasurer with a neighboring district and I was told that if they never brought in another cent in revenue from that day forward (roughly mid-April), they would be able to survive only roughly another two years before some really tough decisions would have to be made.

Vanlue-Carey Schools in T-minus 5 years

I still think if you combine Arcadia and Vanlue and build a K-12 school along 224, it'll be a viable district with decent open enrollment opportunity and give the portion south of Vanlue to Riverdale. I dont know how much territory Vanlue has in Wyandot County, but if they do then that could go to Carey

What could this new district be called?

Hancock Eastern
East Hancock
Vancadia

Ohio needs to consolidate some of these smaller districts across the state. I do know it's a local decision buy at some point it's time IMO
Good luck convincing politicians to stick their necks out for something that will be horribly unpopular with their consituents.

You are correct the fact that the state spent lots money to build Ottoville and Ft. Jennings schools so close together tells me they are not going to do that. If there was ever two districts that should have combine it is those two.

I always thought Ohio needs to break up some of the larger school districts.
It would be interesting to see what breaking up districts like CMSD/TPS/CPS/CCS would do for those districts. It always seems to me like you can't effectively build any sort of teaching/education strategy with districts that oversee areas, populations, etc. that are so different.

Full consolation isn't needed. As long as a school is academically serving it's students needs and offering a good curriculum, there's no reason to force anything. If they want to share certain resources, like a treasurer or even up to a superintendent with a border district to save money, that's on them. But let's not make rash decisions based on sports here.

What IS needed, I've said a few times, are co-ops. Putnan County, for example, could probably put together some good football teams if Continental/Kalida, Ottoville/FJ, Miller City/Leipsic, and Pandora/Cory-Rawson put together combined teams. Let the individual schools, which all perform at at acceptable to great level, keep their identity and even play most sports under their own banner. But give more kids an opportunity to play by coming together.

lol..ya'think? Ohio wastes A LOT of money with multiple districts in a small area. Lots of money flies out the window in administrative costs that doesn't help the kids.

Here is a thought..what if each county in Ohio was a school district?

Heavens, no! You are going to bus kids 30 miles to school all over the state?

Ok, if the idea is one big DISTRICT with shared administrators but multiple schools, I agree. Save money where you can.

Ohio? I seem to recall our schools are financed by local taxes. Local decision. You socialists lol (every post has to include that accusation, it's a new Yappi rule) intent on inflating your olentangy real estate investments can take a flying leap. The less state involvement, the better. Look how bloated ODE has become and what services do they actually provide? You think the 88 agencies you just created (because community admin is NEVER going away) is going to be MORE efficient?

Pushing for policies that are popular with their constituents is literally the only real purpose of politicians......

That would be a really bad idea. You're from Lucas Co. I believe (Maumee fan), Here are the school districts in Lucas Co: Anthony Wayne, Evergreen, Maumee, Oregon, Otsego, Ottawa Hills, Springfield, Swanton, Sylvania, Toledo Public and Washington Local. Could you imagine having high income schools (Ottawa Hills, Sylvania NV and SV) share revenue / staffing with the TPS Schools? The residents who pay the higher property / school taxes would flip out. Also running schools the size of Whitmer or Start vs Maumee, Ottawa Hills or any other smaller schools is completely different in staffing and equipment means. Same with the needs of the kids in inner city schools versus those in the rural areas.
