Northwest Conference 2024

Honestly I was surprised how easily the Ada D stopped them at 1st. I think VW was on play # 6-7 and had only gained 5 yds. They eventually scored on their series of downs but on the very last play. After that Ada/ VW pretty much played even. I did not watch those schools JV’ much as I was watching Sr/LCC a little closer
When VW played Lima Sr, Sr did what they wanted and pretty much scored at will. But things got a little chippy between the teams and this must have fired up the Cougars. Lima Sr definitely “won” that scrimmage but VW played a lot better when they had a chip on their shoulder and played good ball after that. VW has some nice athletes but not sure how well that will translate to wins in the tough WBL. Hope I’m wrong since I have always followed VW from afar and root for them
Based on the results of the Crestview/VW scrimmage, safe to say Crestview has skill and Van Wert will need to figure several items out over the season.

But when you put them into their respective leagues, Crestview and VW will finish near the middle, with Crestview maybe breaking into the top third of the NWC and that is only due to the strength of the NWC.

Does Crestview have any line or rather size on the line? Watching the previews, it looks like they lack some big boys up front. Looks like it's CG, Bluffton, & LCC. Ft. Loramie giving fits with a big back as well.

5 new OL have to mesh. Had some nice plays and movement up front last night but they should get better as the season moves along and hopefully stay healthy. Leeth should be one of the top RBs in the league again.

I take Grove to win the league. Fort Loramine football has gone backwards a little, I also think at any time they could move up to 2nd place or so. Have good for so many years.

I think you know, there isn't hungrier more motivation team with the talent to not only win the league but also the region.
You can hear it in the players voices
Good point. League is gonna be tough one to win this year with the addition of Fort Loramie and LCC. With the Region I think PH is Blufftons biggest road block in front of them if they want to win it.

Grove wants a state championship, and those run through the MAC, so it’s perfectly fine to think about them. Constantly thinking about your smaller neighbor that kicks your tail in every sport is a bit different.
Sounds like you are talking about the same thing, only for Bluffton it's considered sad and for Grove it's perfectly fine

Not sure if scrimmages mean anything but if they in fact tell us anything Grove looks like a beast. Thursday against Ayersville it was score whenever you feel like it and they did over and over again I can only say either Grove’s offense is really good or Ayersville is worse than bad. Maybe a little of both Ayersville could potentially win one or two games at best in the NWC and that is being generous No idea of final tallies but something like 13-1 td’s and that one came with several starters out for Grove. The thing that stood out to me was overall speed at nearly every position . the NWC is actually loaded with good teams this year it appears -with CG LCC and possibly Bluffton -(they have a tendency to fold in big games)leading the way. Even the second tier teams like Crestview AE and Ft Loramie will be better than decent . CG has without a doubt the most difficult schedule from top to bottom of any NWC school so time will tell if this helps or hurts in the long run

The biggest difference is you would never hear Grove players and coaches saying they are going to beat ML this year because blah, blah, blah. We are better, more athletic, etc... Last year Bluffton just pretty much dissed Grove and expected Grove to roll over because Bluffton fans and players thought they were better without giving Grove any kind of credit for the success they have had in the last 5 years.

No, I’m not. For Grove to play the top MAC schools at all requires them to make it to the top of the state, which they’ve done 3 times in the last 4 seasons. Not really at all the same as going 6-19 against your rival in the current century.

Grove has more state semi appearances the last 10 years (4) then Bluffton has wins vs Grove (2). So if Grove is talking about the MAC that’s means they are playing for a chance to make the state final. So it is fine. For Bluffton talking about beating Grove in most years it was in hopes to have a record at .500 or bragging rights for a year or even a “winning season”. Or to even make the playoffs (before the extended 16 team playoff) but Last year wasn’t the case week 10 or week 14 obviously for what I just stated above.

It is difficult to argue with someone who is blinded by his own passion like wishbone-too bad the players don’t share that passion -maybe a once removed generation from Grove quarterback will help the Pirates this year get over a bad dream they are in They didn’t seem to be able to get it done without him. But the bottom line is until Bluffton actually beats Grove the dream only gets darker for the Pirates

Sounds like the Grove and Bluffton Communities really love each other when it comes to football reading all these post….lol

Bluffton is a great community but their unfounded trash talking gets old real fast-when they have failed miserably to back it up and to be honest it is only a couple posters who most if not all verbage is aimed towards
There are peaks and valleys at nearly every school let’s just accept it not make hyperbolic excuses when things don’t go your way

Sounds like a Jackson Center fan to me in comparison, but for basketball. The thing is they usually can back it up. Year in and year out they usually have solid Basketball programs and usually compete for the Shelby Country League. And have deep tournament runs as well.

Week 1 league games:

Allen East vs. Toledo Rogers - Allen East rolls vs the Rams

Bluffton vs. Benjamin Logan - Bluffton gets to a quick start and plays JV's for half of the game

Columbus Grove vs. Pandora-Gilboa - Pandora keeps it close for the first half but Grove pulls away in the late second/early third quarter and gets a a convincing payback win for last year

Crestview vs. Parkway - If Crestview can run the ball they'll roll in this game. They've got enough weapons back to score quickly

Delphos Jefferson vs. North College Hill (Cincinnati) - I googled North College Hill Football and the only news articles were about an "incident" at their football stadium... Jefferson gets off to a good start and gets one of 2-3 non-conference wins this year

Ft. Loramie vs. Minster - Not that familiar with Loramie, but from what I've heard Minster is legit. Loramie keeps it close for a bit before Minster pulls away

Lima Central Catholic vs. Shawnee - Could be closer than previous years with the new signal caller at LCC, but the T-Birds will get the W

Spencerville vs. Ridgemont - Improved Spencerville with almost everyone back gets off to a 2-1 or 3-0 non-conference start

Overall I'd expect the league to go 7-1 in Week 1, unless the newbies in Loramie can pull off the upset and make the NWC undefeated

Just finished looking at max prep rankings-good or bad they are state rankings- eight that’s right eight of CG’s ten opponents are ranked no lower than 17th in the entire state in their division they just might play the most difficult schedule in nwohio if not one of the hardest in the entire state

Last year Drew Pasteur had Grove's schedule ranked #6 in all of D6. It might be the toughest in all of D7 this year

IDK, although Fort Loramie has Covington in the non conference, they also have Minster and Versailles along with actually having Grove as an opponent. I think that makes it tougher than Grove's.
