NEO Conference Realignment

Well they could just bring Richmond Heights back into the league for football since they are in the CVC for everything else.
Richmond Hts - like Lutheran West - does not play a conference schedule in boys basketball, probably to the benefit of everyone. They only sponsor a few sports, and are a CVC member for those sports. If Richmond Hts plays football, it will be in the CVC ... it's just that they haven't sponsored football a couple of years now.

On Joe Eitel it looks like Richmond Hts played 6 games last year. So I think they do have football back, I also thought they didn't have football. But I believe Rootstown is a 1 year CVC deal, and then they will be gone I think? So maybe the CVC does bring Richmond Hts football into the mix, and then look to add someone else to take Lutheran West spot so they get back up to 28 football schools, which is easier to divide than 26 football schools, but I don't think its absolutely necessary that they get the hole filled ASAP, but I am sure the conference is open to taking on new schools.

I think Lorain is even worse. Lorain/Brunswick might be the least compatible conference mates in the whole state lol
I didn't want Lorain at all, but the league apparently just wants 8 teams at all costs. I would have rather seen Mentor push St Ignatius into the open week 4-10 from being at 7 teams.

Just have to hope they get some good coaching and use their D1 enrollment size to get things right

Agreed. Lorain and Euclid both should not be in the GCC. Euclid is uncompetitive in every sport. Basketball has the chance to turn around, and maybe football (also read they are solid at track). But the rest of their sports have literally a 0% chance to compete against Brunswick, Mentor and Strongsville. Lorain has done better in other sports, but that's because they have played appropriate levels of competition in the Lake Erie League. Once they start in the GCC, much like Euclid they will struggle badly. If both schools wanted what's best for their athletes, they would not be in the GCC, but it's both schools only option right now.

Agreed I get wanting 8 but if they don't get good coaching they will just be net negative in the conference. Let's just say nobody in the old LEL is sad they don't have to make that trip anymore and those schools can have problems themselves during games.

At least Euclid has a shot with Rogers and Creel in the money sports

Unless they get good, I'll rarely make that trip. I'll go this year because I haven't been there since Lorain schools combined so it will be a new experience

I'm not married to going to every Mentor game. If they have more schools who can't compete or schools I don't care to see as opponents, I'll just go to another public school matchup that week

I feel that I try to get to a new stadium a year. Really wish we could get playoffs on Friday and Saturday again

If the CVC does want to replace Lutheran West with somebody, I could see it coming out of SL American...I also agree Barberton, Copley or Revere could look for greener pastors due to travel... So, if one or two those schools leave Brunswick and Strongsville will be racing to apply to the SL... My guess the SL higher ups will make a deal with NoRo or Nordonia to drop down to the American division to get their vote to let Brunswick and/or Strongsville in.

I imagine it would be Nordonia to drop to the American. Based on the most recent enrollment numbers, Highland and Nordonia are tied as the smallest schools in the National.

When they’ve had good coaches they win. When they don’t, they lose. Football and basketball.

I'd settle for competent. I don't remember Lorain being good in football for a lot of years.
It’s been a while. Creel was doing a good job and I like the current coach, so there is hope. Back when Solis and McFarland coached they were solid. There have been some bad years too, obviously.

There is no excuse for them being bad in basketball. When Rositano stepped down they went downhill fast.

Highland requested to move to the National. They want to play Medina and Wadsworth on a regular basis. Highland also plays Brunswick in almost every sport as well and will be playing Strongsville in football...NoRo and Nordonia will be definite no votes for Brunswick and/or Strongsville to get in. They've been leading the "no votes" to keep the big schools out. The SL had to change the rules to get Medina in a couple of months ago.

I say let NoRo and Nordonia go to the American then, and Brunswick and/or Strongsville can slot in the National just fine. Neither school would come in and absolutely dominate the SLN (Hudson and Highland can be the two smaller SLN schools, both are extremely competitive at all sports). Across all sports it would be really competitive.

Anybody who knows this area even decently well enough can tell you, with no reservation, that Brunswick & Strongsville have ZERO chance of being accepted into the Suburban. ZERO!

The only person I hear saying it’s a 0% chance is you…. Everyone else seems to think they would have a great chance if 2 spots open up. I mean they took in Medina who are much like Strongsville and Brunswick (if not a little stronger at athletics then both).

You also said Chardon had a 0% chance to the CVC, and Medina/Solon to the SL was 0% and they all ended up happening

Look up the history of the Northeast Ohio Conference (2007-2015) and you'll likely understand why I'm so confident in my assertion.

And yes, I was wrong and legit surprised about Chardon and Solon. I thought Chardon was too big for the CVC and Solon hadn't mended fences with enough NOC schools. I think I made my Medina claim when Drew Allar was still there, so my opinion was skewed somewhat.

Brunswick and particularly Strongsville should channel their efforts toward the SWC if they want out of the GCC; they'll have a much better chance of getting accepted there.

Solon didn't have to mend fences. Programs fell off a cliff and it's a convenient location

Agree that Strongsville and Brunswick have a chance at the SWC. It’s slim, but Midview and Amherst have at least kicked the tires on following North Olmsted and Westlake to the Cleveland West. Both decided against it, but they did look.

The SL changed their bylaws to pass amendments to a 2/3 majority vote. So, Brunswick would need 10 schools to say yes to get in (Medina got in by a 11-2 vote with NoRo and Nordonia being the no votes). So assuming everyone in the SL National votes yes except NoRo and Nordonia that would give Brunswick 6 out of the 10 votes they need to get in. Brunswick would only need 4 SL American schools to say yes or 3 to say yes and most likely a deal with Nordonia for yes vote and them dropping to the American. So to say there's zero chance is kind of absurd and Brunswick has played several SL school since the NOC broke up.

Brunswick enrollment has also came down considerably.

Do you know if the Cleveland West Conference offered them spots? I think both schools would be good fits, but the SWC travel situation is hard to beat, but if I see anyone going there it would be Midview most likely as their enrollment has seen quite a big decrease.

I kind of have always wondered if Lorain ever tried to go to the Cleveland West Conference. Much like the Parma schools they are bigger than everyone, but I don't think that matters considering they wouldn't exactly dominate, and actually probably do the exact opposite. Travel would be substantially better than the GCC as well.

Don’t know that they were ever offered spots, but there was a little mutual interest. Not enough, though. I think both prefer to stay in the SWC, especially Amherst.

I saw that Amherst won the league for baseball, and they did pretty okay in football, I don’t see them needing to leave per say. But both schools do seem to play a lot of the CWC in non league competition, so they are at least keeping the door open if they ever want a move

Amherst typically does very well in the SWC in all boys and girls sports, with the exception of football in recent years, but they’ve been respectable under Coach Thome. If he sticks around and cranks up the youth program Amherst football could be much more competitive.
